Applying for vehicle tax exemption

Wondering if anyone can help me out.
I’m elegible for vehicle tax exemption, but I can’t figure out for the life of home how to claim it.

On the .gov website, it says I can either claim when I pay for the vehicle tax or that I can register with the post office and by post. When I move through the paying vehicle tax pages, it doesn’t give me the option anywhere to apply for tax exemption before I pay. Anyone got any idea?

The procedure is likely different dependent on the type of tax exemption ie historic vehicle, zero emissions vehicle, disabled/medical exemption

It would be disabled exemption.

I think the first time you apply for vehicle tax exemption you have to do it at a post office, then it can be renewed online each year. My stepdad has just renewed his free vehicle tax online.
