Applying for operative posts.

New here hello I've been applying for a number of operative roles now for a few years never get any further than being under consideration for assessment 2 and I have sneaking suspicion that they all go to contractors. Anyway recently applied for yet another operative role only this time I thought I would include more info on my safety critical experience in my current role etc and generally I feel the application looked much better than earlier applications only this didn't even make it as far as being under consideration for assessment 2. Also the standard reject email which looks like it has a section where they insert the reason for rejection is left blank this time just makes me think that all these roles are for certain people only not complete outsiders like myself who may have the relevant experience. Seen it mentioned on here before by other people that the jobs being advertised are not 100 per cent genuine and all earmarked for certain people perhaps I'm wrong and correct me if I'm wrong this confirms it. Anyway rant over just wondering if I'm on my own.

I spent a year applying for 10+ operative posts, never got further than Assessment 2, I think its just an employers market for those posts, I've given up for a while.

Don’t lose heart it is doable. My brother in law applied for external sig maintenance operative few years ago. No previous railway / engineering experience. He got in and eventually rose through technician and team leader. Keep trying.

I’ve been trying to get in with network rail for the last few years my self. Im agency on the railway.
