Applying for 2 Jobs at SWR

Hi all as listed i had passed my assessment for Commercial Guard about 6 weeks ago but am still waiting for an interview date.

I have called them and they have said that they are aware and will be in touch when one is available.

There has been another job come up with SWR that interests me in the meantime so to not lose out on the application time window, how would this be seen by SWR ?

Will it be frowned upon or seen in a negative way ? A.k.a lower my passing chance in the commercial guard interview ? Should i not apply for two jobs with SWR at the same time at all ?

It all depends what this other job is and how it is classified, might help if we know that to see what impact it might have? In general as long as they are not in the same category you should be fine but I’m sure there is one TOC that it would say only apply 1 job at a time but can’t remember the post that advised it, will also depend on the testing regime as well. Keep us updated how you get on

It is for Customer Ambassador at the same depot -

Would of course love to get the commercial guard position but obviously the time frame for the Customer Ambassador position is due to close within a couple of weeks. Just would like to keep my options open.

I’d recommend speaking to recruitment and saying you’ve seen the other job advertised and are considering it as it would of course utilise customer service skills etc etc. Having said that, the salary is obviously a lot lower for Customer Ambassador, and if you got that job you’d be there for at least 6 months before being able to apply for something else. On a plus side, the shifts will be more sociable.

There are a few different scenarios with jobs.

You could be placed in a talent pool - if that's the case, you can still apply for other jobs as a talent pool is no guarantee of employment in the future.

If you've passed the interview and are awaiting a start date, the likelihood is that you wouldn't be able to apply for any further roles with the same TOC for a minimum of six months.

Its a really difficult one but I've always said to other members previously - just go for a role you will be satisfied with. As sod's law dictates - you take a lesser paid role just to get on with a TOC then the job of your dream comes along afterwards.

That said, even though you've accepted the lesser paid role - there's still no assurances that you will get the other role. Its all swings and roundabouts I'm affraid pal.

So it seems as though either way it shouldn't be too much of issue either way to apply at the very least.

The incentive for me for both positions is that i have always got on very well with customer services in general so i would have thought suit both jobs equally.

The dilemma is Commercial Guard massive step up in pay - Not sociable hours - And currently same hours as i an doing now. Or Ambassador for same money as i am on now but 25 hours per week rather than 43 !

Tough call but either way any of the jobs is a win win for me so yeah swings and roundabouts indeed ! Thanks again for the help.

Do you think its better to ring recruitment before i apply then or that it doesn't matter ?
