Applied for 2 positions...

Hi all, new to this forum.

Back in August I applied for a conductor position and was told I'd be notified of the next intake.

For the next 2 months I didn't hear anything and a Trainee driver position came up a couple of weeks ago with the same TOC, I applied for this too and noted that I had applied for the conductor role in the application.

Last week I received an invite to the conductor assessment day and then yesterday I got another invite for the driver assessment day which is 5 days after the conductors.

I'd give my right arm for either of these positions and I'm obviously going to treat them independently from one another and give it my best.

My question is having 2 dates so close to one another for 2 different roles going to count against me if they ask about my "other" application?

Tell them you are following the Government's Instructions to work harder and do 2 jobs.

Speak to the TOC first. When you go for the assessment the first question asked is along the lines of "Have you taken a railway assessment within the last 6 months". Saying yes on the Drivers assessment may get you excluded from that vacancy as you will have taken the Guards assessment 5 days previous.

I don't know if the 6 months wait between assessments applies to separate job roles, therefore its best to get clarification first and get to choose which vacancy to pursue rather than have the choice forced upon you.

I undertook 2 assessments with a TOC for Conductor and Driver. By sheer coincidence, I had interviews for both within a week of each other. I was asked at the Conductor interview if I'd applied for another position, to which I came clean, and said yes. I was told I was successful for the Conductors job, to which I start my training next week. When I went for the Driver's assessment though, the only test I didn't have to do was the Group Bourdon Test, as they transferred my score from the Conductor's assessment. I believe it's showing the TOC how keen you are wanting to work for them.

Thought I would just update this thread, I got the results a few days ago that I passed both assessment days

I did the conductor online ones for 1 toc about a month ago but didnt get to next stage, got to do some for another toc in next few days.

Dont know how I scored on the 1st lot just that I didnt progress.

I found the shl practice ones & others harder than the one's I sat and the practice ones I did today havent filled me with a great deal of confidence either tbh.

will just have to go for it I think

the shl practice ones and googled some to practice, I just went through various ones it threw up. Been practicing the verbal reasoning a bit more as I've found that at times they can throw you, on 1 site they had a couple to practice and on the 1st I only got 2 wrong but then on the 2nd I bombed out, a deffo advantage if you know what the subject is that the passage relates to, when it's something you've never heard of. The false/cannot say thing at times is what throws you i.e. working out if you can deffo rule it out or if you cant give a definite answer from the passage.
It seems from reading as well that these tests were more designed for graduate/management positions as well to begin with.

don't know how many they have put through to the tests but the job add didnt give a great deal of time for applications, so hoping that it's cut down the amount straight away.
