Application Trainee Train Driver...advice please!

Hope you're well.

I am applying for the position above and I was just wondering about the questions that we have to answer in the application form.

Does anybody have an idea of what type of answers they are looking for? A question asks what could be key attributes of a train driver?

Hi Mr Douglas,
I would be tempted to google the question asked and see what results you get from it. I often this when I am finding difficulty in answering a question. Or look at any person specs of role or anything on TOC website that could even answer the question for you.
I am sure you will get better responses from others who have a lot more railway experience.

Coping with difficult situations, Working Under Pressure, Concentrating for Long Periods, Solving Problems, Working in a Logical Manner, Communicating Effectively are the main areas, the questions should cover. With Northern there is a question at the end which asks why you want to be a driver. With Northern the questions on the application form are example based (or were) covering these main areas.

Googling the answers might help in the short term, but when it comes to the assessments, although help is available here, you will still need to answer the questions based on your real life experiences

Am I correct in thinking your applying for Southeastern?

I ran through the online application today, took quite a while, but the questions asked at the beginning of the application are based from what I can see on how you would deal with different situations

All I would say is, be yourself and answer honestly

I have just completed my application form for Trainee Driver at Dartford with Southeastern. I actually enjoyed filling it out but it took me about 2 hours to complete, but then again I put my heart into it. I am just glad its sent and I have the acknowledgement email from them now. So I now join hundreds of other applicants in the waiting game.

Took me around the same time to be honest but it's better to take your time and not rush

How anyone can apply for a position and expect their application to be successful when they don't even know the 'key attributes' required for the role they are applying for is beyond me... hock:

What could be key attributes of a train driver?
Don't say "Trying to keep awake whilst working the Kings Cross to Newcastle first stop York. Change that into " being vigilant and attentive and concentrating on the surroundings and location.

Why do you want the job? Don't say "it pays £50k+ a year and comes with membership of a powerful union, excellent final salary pension and fantastic job security" Change that to it's your dream job ant entails all you have ever wanted to do"

That way your not telling the truth at the same time as not telling a lie.LOL

Mr. Douglas, the first question is "Can you use your own initiative" errrm ..... just think about that for a while
