Application response times

Hi am new to the forum and am quite pleased i found it, was just wondering on howlong toc's reply to your application and what toc's they were

well I put an application in on thursday and had a letter to say they had received it today? Takes a week or so minimum I think before hearing if you are going forward to selection - really depends on the company though and how eager they are to get someone into the job.

I did hear of one TOC taking 10months to tell someone they'd passed their assessment!

Southern took over a year to tell me I was succesful to assesment stage!

So far it has taken nearly 7 months to be given a date for said assesment!

I applied in Sept 2006.

Letter came about 3 weeks later, inviting me for initial tests in November. After those tests, I was told I would get the results the following week.

THREE weeks went by:roll:. Then a letter came telling me I was going on to the next stage, the remaining tests and a "criteria based interview". That took place in December.

I chased that one up (to avoid another 3 agonising weeks) and found out the following week I'd passed but the letter came February 2007, yes 2 months later!! The letter confirmed I'd passed and would be going forward for interview with Driver Managers but no date as yet. HR then asked me if I'd be interested in Chingford depot, starting in May. I had a holiday booked for then so couldn't! Plus I'd applied for the Great Eastern side not WA. They offered this, they said, as I'd been waiting for so long. My interview eventually took place in June 2007!!

I was formally accepted to the training course the following day by telephone, subject to passing medical.

I had the medical the following week, started training, just less than 3 weeks later, in July! I had to resign from my other job before medical! Wouldn't recommend that but I was already on another railway so knew eyesight etc was fine.

This was with NXEA.

It was all extremely drawn out! There were some in my training group who had a much shorter time span than me. Some had the same.

I did keep chasing them up too. Just to keep my name in the frame!

To be honest, I have often wondered if the drawing out of it all is a tactic to see just how keen and patient you are. I'm sure there must be some people who do get fed up and drop out. One guy in our group went through all that then dropped out after the 1st day of training!!

I applied to two VT jobs at Manchester Piccadilly and heard after about three weeks.
Unfortunatly, did not get invited to the assesment centre on eithier application. I spent ages on the application form!

I will warn you it can take up to about 6 months at application stage. Then by that time they may have changed their minds also on the amount of people they require.

Best advice is apply for the jobs you want, forget about it and if you get offered an asses then go to it and think yourself lucky.

After that they still may have changed their minds and put you on what they call a waiting list. Again forget about it, if you eventually get through and get a contract through the post then you have been very very lucky. Especially in the case of applying for trainee drivers vacancies.

What is the average time from receiving the letter inviting you for the assessment/interview to the actual assessment day?

i spoke to southern Friday... seems they "lost" my application in the computer ether...

There should be an assesment for me in May!

Just shows how useful it can be sometimes to ring and chase your application up!
