There's a way to fill in the application form to maximise your chances of getting through the sift. You must market yourself in a way that demonstrates that you've read and understood the advert.
I've looked at job applications in the past and been shocked at what people actually put forward:
- Applications littered with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors
- Vague, laconic responses
- Largely irrelevant responses which go little way to demonstrating the core competencies advertised for
- Selecting options from multiple choice tests which will very obviously profile you as undesirable for the role
- Use of one click applications
- Untailored CVs
- Unprofessional, sloppy CVs
- Missing submissions - like some people don't bother uploading a CV/covering letter when the application requires them
- Various red flags - unexplained gaps in employment for example
- Criminal records and previous dismissals may not help
- Confirming an unwillingness for previous employers to be contacted
- Applying at the last minute when the advert has been open for weeks
- Displaying a lack of understanding of the role applied for
If you've put in 30 applications in 6 months and not gotten through, it's definitely worth sitting in with someone who can look at what you're doing and offer some tips. It's a very personal thing, so I'm not certain a forum is the best place to get the tailored advice you'd benefit most from.
