Apple are being sued for $3m because they are claimed to be infringing yet another patent.

An apparent shell company has filed a $3 million patent infringement lawsuit against Apple for including headphones with its iPhones.

A company called Intelligent Smart Phones Concepts sued Apple last week in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that Apple infringed on U.S. Patent No. 7,373,182. The abstract for "Wireless Mobile Phone Including a Headset" describes an interface that allows a removable headset "to receive at least telephony audio signals from the phone, and to provide audio signals to the phone."

I seem to remember Apple sued Samsung in September 2012, but their claims that Samsung and Motorola infringed tablet design were turned down by a German court. Then in August, Samsung were told to pay out billions of dollars over yet more design claims made by Apple.

If you look at the Iphone and certain other Samsung products there are clear similarities. Having said that, Apple do seem to have a relative dominance of the market.

It was for the same thing. Apple was suing Samsung over design infringements and was trying to ban products being sold in different countries. EU (and Japan) ruled in favour of Samsung, the US ruled in favour of Apple (hense that huge payout).

Since Apple started suing everyone under the big glowing golden disk in the sky, Im glad to see them getting sued back.

Oh, IIRC the US Patent Office turned around and declared (subject to appeal) that the patents in question held by Apple were "not original" and therefore invalid.

In the US you can patent vague concepts... IIRC for a while someone had a patent on "paying for goods on the internet with a creditcard"

In Europe the patent system is much stricter on what will be accepted.

I'm waiting to see if Google ever sue Apple to be honest, given Apple stole Siri from them then trademarked it, meaning Android devices now use Iris ha!

Source...an Apple technician at Bath Apple Store, so could be completely wrong but hey ho.
