Apperley Bridge and Appley Bridge stations

Should Apperley Bridge and Appley Bridge stations be given the (Yorks) and (Lancs) suffix respectively on their names, due to the familiarity in station names?

Is there any cases where customers have been confused between purchasing tickets for either station?

I once had a booking clerk get it wrong, ie guessed the CRS code for Farnham and produced tickets to Fareham. The price was sufficiently close to what I was expecting that I didn't check the tickets straight away. Thankfully I spotted the error in time to return to the booking office and get the correct tickets.

And I once was unable to sell a ticket to Hinckley (well out of my area) due to not knowing the CRS code nor the correct spelling (that extra "c" was the issue). The customer knew only that it was near Nuneaton (that much I did know) and couldn't put me straight. So someone else got the commission. There are doubtless similar examples around the network but the number of potential sales affected will be tiny.

Although these are easily distinguished if pronounced correctly (The Kent one has a J sound while the Dorset one has a hard G).

I did once wonder why I was being quoted a ridiculously high fare for a journey from Batley to Rochdale... until I noticed I'd had a brainfart and used [BAT] instead of the correct [BTL]. The former of course being the code for Battle near the South Coast!

In my ticket collection I have a fairly recent Off-Peak Return from Manchester to Worle with an Excess coupon attached from Manchester to Wool. The friend who passed it to me said the person asked for a return to Wool but it was misheard as Worle! (Edited to correct this - I've just found the scans I made.)

Years ago I acquired a small batch of APTIS tickets which must have been collected on the gateline at one of the Hertford stations (pre-automatic gate days, of course), and I'm sure there was a London-Hartford ticket in there.

Apperley Bridge (West Yorks), to match up with Bramley (West Yorks)?

But no for me - in part because you're relying on people knowing the county. (Or agreeing with it: "Greenfield in Greater Manchester?" "No, Greenfield in Yorkshire".) We'd end up changing one confusion for another.

Indeed - until about a month ago, Northern still had 'station information' boards up at Apperley Bridge for Appley Bridge!
