The suggestion that you "should" find the guard before you sit down is quite daft really, especially because it comes with a clear implication that not to do so could result in being charged a Penalty Fare.

But as others have said as wrong as SWR were and are it may just be easier to take the compensation and let it go. Until next time when they do something similar to you again.

In practical terms, now may be the time to quit: you have won your personal case, but you are unlikely to win the crusade.

The only thing I’d do now if it were me is see if there’s an appropriate campaigning organisation I could share my experience and the TOC’s replies with, so it at least gives them the opportunity to build a “bigger picture” if others do the same

London Travelwatch wouldn't be a bad start.

Perhaps SWR Passenger Action Group too.
