App to scan ITSO card

The EMR app used to tell you when and where you last used your ITSO card but that functionality has been removed. Which app offers this now?

The National Rail Smartcard Manager app is the closest I think you can get - it just says which tickets are on the card. I'm not sure if any other apps can tell you when you used it though.

At least for Flexi Seasons within the National Rail Smartcard Manager app you can tap on the ticket and it'll display more details, like the pass activation date & time.

For a more detailed view the Smart Ticket Checker app on Android allows you to view the XML data held on the smartcard:

Cheers. Just tested it with a KeyGo and it has the last origin and destination. I need to test it mid-journey. I need this proof for potential arguments with RPIs, so I can prove I touched in.

It does indeed provide evidence of touch ins whilst you’re in the system since it’ll say where you tapped in and when and that you tapped in.

Whether a RPI would accept that is another question, but presumably they can just scan the card themselves - OBS staff seem capable of scanning it just fine…

A rogue RPI could scan it (or pretend to scan it) and claim I didn't touch in. Or there could have been human error when scanning, or some kind of malfunction. So for piece of mind, it is good to check if the card was scanned using the app before getting on the train.

But back in the real world, RPIs will not accept you checking your smartcard - that would be failing to present a ticket - they will insist on carrying out their own check. However, if you have touched in correctly there is nothing to worry about.

You may think you have touched in correctly but you may have done it wrong. So you need a way of checking before getting on the train. Just like some police (a very small minority) are bad, you can't be 100% sure that rogue RPIs don't exist. There are bound to be some that deliberately claim tickets are invalid when they are not.

If you’re that worried about it perhaps you’d be better not using a smartcard.
