Anytime Single Leuchars to Falkirk same price as Anytime Return ?

On arriving at Leuchars last night to catch the 2224 Service to Edinburgh I had to buy a ticket as I hitched a ride up.

The price of an Anytime Single and Anytime Return were the same £27.40 or £18 with Senior Railcard.

Obviously I bought the Return as the 2nd Leg is valid for a month.

Is this pricing structure normal or an aberration ?

Similar pricing for Cupar to/from Larbert. Does seem unusual that the Anytime Single & Anytime Return are the same price, though.

This is often the case for journeys in the Glasgow suburban area too. May possibly be an artifact of how scrapping peak pricing differences was done.

It is an artifact of how off-peak fares were set by British Rail.
