Hi All - I'm plannning a return trip from Doncaster to Horton-In-Ribblesdale and am looking at breaking my journey, certainly on the outbound leg, at Crossflatts.

The planners (including the forum one) are offering me an Anytime Short Return but I can't decipher the break of journey conditions. In the Break of Journey box it says "Outbound" but nothing else and in the Ticket Description it says the Outbound is only valid for one day.

I suspect this means that I can't overnight on this ticket and will have to get full Anytime or a combiation of Advances, is this correct please?

Thanks.

In my understanding you cannot overnight on the outward (i.e. it's only valid until 0429 on day two as per an Anytime Day Single) but the return is the same as an Anytime Return, i.e. valid for a month with unlimited breaks. The provision about "if you cannot complete" for the outward is not, unlike the Off Peak, in the conditions.

It actually says nothing about break of journey on any official resources, neither that it's allowed or isn't, though, unlike other ticket types. As it being allowed is the default then it must be allowed, but obviously only same-day on the outward.

Anytime fares are fully flexible walk-up tickets with no restrictions on when you can travel.
The Anytime Short Return has exactly the same terms and conditions as the normal Anytime Return in that there are no time restrictions, EXCEPT that the outward portion of the ticket is valid for ONE day and not FIVE days. The return validity remains the standard calendar month.
It's addition to the existing ticket range aims to give customers increased choice by offering a period Anytime return for use in the peak on short distance flows where traditionally only a Day ticket was available. This then provides both period options for Peak and Off Peak Travel.
Ticket Issuing Systems will display the ticket type as SHR - ANYTIME SHORT R.
Tickets will print with ANYTIME SHORT R.

You probably won't be able to get a "full Anytime" as these are not generally offered alongside the SHR tickets.

Break of journey is allowed on the outward, as you say.

So what effectively are the options for the OP? Buy the Anytime Short Return from Doncaster to Horton at £34.30 then possibly have to buy an additional single from Crossflats to Horton at £11.80/£13.10 to complete the outward journey on Day 2 or 3? Anything cheaper?

Doncaster to Keighley Offpeak Return £29.20 (after 0930) plus Crossflatts to Horton (Anytime £14/Offpeak Day £11.90) is slightly cheaper.
(Booking to Keighley means you don't have to get a stopper on the way back!)

Annoyingly, if the OP is planning on using the 0920 off Leeds on a weekday, the Offpeak Day Return from Crossflatts doesn't work - I would stroll back to Bingley along the canal and pay £12.90 CDR from there :)

(OT: there are some interesting splits around Long Preston for journeys further up the S and C.)

Indeed, although the continuation of the OP's trip from Crossflatts up to Horton in Ribblesdale would then necessarily have to be there and back on the same day.

Thanks, that looks perfect and I assume is valid via Donny (indeed the NR Route Planner offers that price via Donny on some services).
