Anytime return only available one way

Hi,

I'm confused! Why can I get any Anytime Return from Huntingdon to London but not from London to Huntingdon?

Also, why does my Gold Card not give me a discount?

No idea why the Anytime Return (SOR) is only available in one direction (for London to Huntingdon there is ! A possible solution is to buy an FCC Only SOR to Peterborough for £4 more but that wouldn't give a discount (so not much use to you, but for someone else that would work)

Gold Cards should give a discount on such a ticket though! Where is it showing that you can't get a discount (ie, which website or ticket office or TVM?)

I wonder how the excess would be calculated when someone uses a SVR on a train when the SVR is not valid but there is no SOR? Apparently you can't excess a ticket that is valid for 1 month to a ticket that has a shorter validity. Anyone have an answer to that?

Thanks Yorkie - at least for letting me know I wasn't being a complete idiot. I looked on the National Rail site and East Coast. Oddly it would give me a discount with a 16-25 rail card.

Anybody have any ideas?

Gold Card isn't valid before 10 am which I guess is why you're not getting a discount.

Wouldn't two Anytime Singles be the same price as a Return?

I'm seeing both Anytime Day and Anytime Return on the NR OJP for a Kings Cross to Huntingdon jouney.

Anytime Return isn't there by default unless you set an appropriate return date and time, but it will show for a same day journey if you select 'more fares' then 'show all fare options'.

Gold Card discount is also there - did you select it from the drop down and then click the ADD button as well?

2 singles are indeed teh same price (well 5 pence cheaper actualy!) but would mean either having to know what time I am coming back (I don't) or having to have the faff of buying the return single at the station.

Are there any other routes with one way SOR's?

Double check - SWT's planner is showing a £44.00 Anytime Return as well.

??Why - you'd need to know the date, yes - but not the time. It would be valid on any train on the date for which it was issued.

Cheapest appropriate single to cover the journey. Even if there is an SOR available, it's often cheaper to buy SOS + SVS or vice versa. Or, if a SOS is sold on top of an SVR, claim refund on the unused portion of the SVR (commonly in the region of £1.)

Allegedly some people elsewhere might equate one portion of the SVR to the price of a CDS/SVS (if restriction is the same) and charge the excess between that and a SDS/SOS, personally I won't do anything that has even a 0.01% chance of backfiring on me.
