Just caught the end of the Spring Statement/Emergency Budget (delete according to personal politics).

Was there anything for the railways? Good, bad or indifferent.

Nothing specific about the railways other than spending is protected on day to day and investment but until we get the spending review in June I doubt we see anything specific.

The Spending Review Phase 2 in June is when I think we will see any announcements, I suspect we might see TfL get the funding for capital projects like the Bakerloo Line stock replacement and the extension as well as funding for the trams.

Let's hope there's some stuff well north of there too.

Inflation to average 3.2% in 2025 so that will be the bench mark for the next annual fare increase and it could of course be more.

Even though the January fares round has been postponed to March since 2021, the increase to regulated fares is still usually based on July RPI. That should be announced in mid-August.

The July RPI figure is just academic these days. The practical effect of saying that the annual fare rise for regulated fares is derived from July RPI plus or minus whatever the Government decides on a year by year basis renders its use as a base value meaningless.
