Anyone musically Minded?

Hello Guys and Girls.

I was wondering if any of you lot were musically minded? I mean play instruments or sing.

I am, i am in a local Kent based Band called the JumpJetz (see http://www.thejumpjetz.com for information and to hear our demo) i am the Lead Singer an Rhythm Guitar, i have 12 guitars Ranging from an original Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul through to my Indie Electro Accoustic and Yamaha 12 String.

What kinda stuff do you have to do for grades? Do you have to be able to read music? I'd just kinda like them to just have proof that I'm however good I am *shrugs* lol

My board of examinations come from 'Rockschool'. Reading music is always good start , but more specificly the books come with both tabs and notes to read from.

Grade exams are for students who want to develop performance and technical skills. A graded examination is made up of the following components:
A performance of either three pieces from the Rockschool syllabus book or two pieces from the book and one free choice piece... (continued at http://www.rockschool.co.uk)

Heh.... Rockschool are one of the more difficult examination schools... the best known ones are ABRSM, Guildhall and Rockschool IIRC.

I do loads of musical things, takes up most of my life it seems! I play cello, and am in my county youth orchestra. I'm grade 7 for that. I also sing, and I'm in National Youth Training Choir. God I do too much music...

I nearly weant to sing at the Royal Albert Hall i think it was, I had to leave 4 weeks earlier

I've been lucky in certain aspects, the biggest audience i have played in front of was about 4000 people with my band, and once i did a duet with an artist who had a number one in the 80's in front of about 12000 people. Really scary doing things like that.

I learnt Violin for a couple of years at Junior School (around 5/6 years back now) but never continued with it

I am (almost) a Grade 5 trumpeter (I am doing the exam in July) and I sing a bit
Play in the 2 school bands, plus the Herefordshire Youth Big Band
And I do A Level Music.
I think I do too much like Max, I am at school till 2030 tomorrow doing it!

I've done 2 5-day long courses which involved boarding, they were called Music Makers based in Fordingbridge... ends with a massive concert. And here is lil' me trying to blast out the "auditorium" with the xylophone... great fun!

I've also done 2 tours of France, Belgium and Germany playing the Xylophone in an orchestra of some description.

Hey guys,

Most things that I do involve (classical) music.

I got my grade 8 oboe a couple of years ago, and ive got grade 7 piano, and grade 2 recorder which ive stopped learning. All are with ABRSM. I play drums but haven't done any exams.

I play oboe in my local (Warwickshire) County Youth Orchestra. I also go to the Junior Department of the Birmingham Conservatoire on Saturdays. I got into the chamber music courses of the National Youth Wind Orchestra, but hope to get into the real thing next year lol.

Like Tom, Ive also done tours of Germany, Spain, Hungary and Scotland. (and I guess you could say England if that counts!)

Being able to play music is far more helpful in life than being able to use a computer.

How? I don't just mean able to use a computer, but do much, much more with it

Being able to play music allows you to enhance your mathematical skills, your co-ordination on some instruments and various other things...

It can help mathematical skills? I would say it was the other way round -- in a way mathematical skills can help you with music.

I think that I can still play the Cello. I must get my parents to ship mine down at some point.
