Anyone know whats happening at Chesterfield?

There is a load of building work going on just to the south of the station, all sorts of plant and builders cabins around, the back of platform 2 is all fenced off and it looked like the Network Rail building between the main line and goods line has gone, seem to have been odd bits going off for quite a while on the town side of the station, anyone have any ides?

I think it was meant to be in place for the Bradway tunnel blockade back in 2008 to aid with turnbacks at Chesterfield, but god knows what it'll be used for now, late running local services on the slow line so expresses can pass maybe?

Is it not being built to help accomodate the next stage of the erewash resignalling project?

At the moment a number of the "slow" Sheffield - London trains don't stop at Chesterfield - not sure if this is a pathing issue or an ORCATS issue, but an additional platform may help that

I know from April 4th, on Sundays its bus services from Chesterfield to Nottingham, with Trains terminating at Chesterfield, but from looking at the works going on it seems to be in the old bay platforms at the Nottingham end of the station, so unless they are building a bigger platform along the goods line at the back then id assume that these engineering works are nothing to do with it.

There has been a lot of work done over the last few months upgrading the good line around the back of Chesterfield station, so it would make sence that they are intending to run passenger trains down there along a new platform 3?
