Anyone here live/work in Lincolnshire?

Hello, i'm looking at switching to a career on the railways this year and currently happily living in Lincoln, finding jobs is one thing; I understand that will be difficult with many hoops to jump through if there is even a vacancy in the first place, but is there anyone here currently living and working in Lincolnshire either as a driver or engineer? This includes commuting a reasonable distance to the workplace from home, IE a neighbouring county?

Hi! I currently live in Sleaford and travel to Nottingham where I work as a depot driver. I predominantly work nights although I try to mix my commute by travelling by train or car. I have a free car park pass and I get free train travel. It takes between 50-60 minutes to travel by car (48 miles) or 60-80 minutes by train depending if it goes via Grantham (there are about 2 journeys a day which bypass it). Any other questions,let me know.

Thanks for the info, that's quite a commute! up to 80mins twice a day either side of a night shift.

How do you find being a depot driver? Enjoyable? What does it involve?

I love being a depot driver. IMO it's the best job in the world! I was previously in the Royal Air Farce for 12 years and it's way better than that. Commuting-wise, I thought it would take its toll but it's absolutely fine. When I did my training at Derby, I spent 2 hours travelling one-way! That was ok too as I spent my time studying (or sleeping!). I did that for 11 weeks!
The job itself involves preparing trains for service, fault finding, coupling/uncoupling, shunting from depot to platform (or vise versa), platform to platform or into the maintenance shed etc.
