Might as well ask here to avoid a new thread - out of the three Birmingham-Euston trains an hour which are generally the quietest? I'm assuming the Watford, Rugby then Keynes stoppers in that order? Also, how likely are the first off-peak trains to be wedged?

When I travelled via Birmingham earlier this month the 10:10 was almost full (despite being a double Voyager), whereas the 10:30 was very quiet (despite being a 9-car Pendolino).

Sorry can't help you there as it seems to be random when I work brum services. Can be rammed or half empty. Probably the best one to get is the long distance one as most people get off at new st. And some wolves passengers avoid it with the longish layover there.

Thanks both. Went for the 0930 Watford stopper in the end, 11-car Pendo and largely empty. Got the 1043 back today (the Keynes stopper), largely quiet from Euston, filled up slightly at Keynes and then of course the whole of Warwickshire got on at Coventry!

ALR - according to the guard on the 0930, the first off-peak departure on VT for London is the 1010, that might explain it.

I took the 14:50 New Street to Euston a few weeks ago and it was packed out (Saturday), loads of people crushed up standing in the doorways so don't know if this was normal for the 14:50 or was due to a cancelled 14:30.
