Are all the 319s that are being replaced on Thameslink already re-allocated, i.e. are they immediately unavailable for use by Thameslink? It seems daft (to me anyway) that with the influx of replacement trains it is still necessary to be running a four coach only unit in the evening peak.

They don't want to run longer trains even in the short term. We are have the same problem at Great Northern (where they are actually reducing capacity)
