Heaton in September? Heard rumours 8-)
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
As Jord says, nearest station to Long Marston is Honeybourne

Or why not just take a Railtour straight to the sight of the event and save a walk or bus ride ;) Oh, and you can all scratch a new shed or two aswell

Didn't know about Tyseley's planned open event, I'm going to make it up there for that one then! Ta for the gen.

Definately doing Long Marston to say my farewells to the 87s and get plenty of photos and actually see everything this time! Might even go to Milton Keynes for the tour.

Heaton is tempting, might do a GC move whilst I'm up that way too.

any idea how much entry is to the long marston event? anyone got the web address for it?

Don't think any details have been released yet, just keep your ears open nearer the time, although I don't think it was that much last time.

Was £5 last year, but is not as well promoted as it might be.

The Tyseley event is at the Museum next and not at the London Midland depot, which can be visited any summer weekend for a small fee (See http://www.markwiddop.co.uk/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=54)

I wouldnt expect too much from the Northern open days either being community open days rather than enthusiast open days.

Anyone heading for Long Marston will most likely see me as I've volunteered to support the events by helping out

Lads & Ladettes, DRS are having an Open Day at Crewe Gresty bridge on 19th July 08, check DRS website for further details [prays that there won't be any Stobart enthusiasts to steal the show!]
*Stobart stoats should be staying at their home playing with their Matchbox models of Stobarts lorries

This should be good

Yes, but is very much limited to applying for tickets and being randomly selected to attend.

I've applied for one, I'm hoping to get a ticket as I've wanted to see Gresty Bridge properly for ages now and is a helluva lot easier to get to than Kingmoor!

Excellent points there.

Personally I have no idea how 'random' these tickets are going to be allocated. Will they be allocated to the people who went to Kingmoor last year? Will they be allocated to the people who didn't? Will all the names be put together into a hat and then pulled out? One problem with this is that since we have no idea on what's going to happen, it would put off the people who need to travel distances and have to book in advance to get the best rates on hotel rooms and train ticket prices, as well as putting off all plans such as summer holidays (falls right smack in the middle of July). At least with last year you applied and it was made well known that no more tickets would be allocated as it was "first come, first served" which, as inconvenient as it can be, is probably the most fairest solution out there.

As for me I've put my name down because it's very easy for me to get to by train and won't cost as much as Kingmoor last year.

One question to those who have applied...did you get an email back acknowledging your registration, because I didn't?

It would be great if DRS perhaps informed the "successful" applicants more than 2 weeks earlier so people could get the quick chance of getting cheap tickets to Crewe from anywhere

Anyways, Good Luck!

Hey Alex, welcome to the forum. Nice to see a familiar face.

I didn't get an acknowledging e-mail from DRS either, which is annoying as I don't know if my e-mail got there.

It would be much fairer if they did it like they did with Kingmoor, rather than this vague randomness.

It's only 90 minutes or so from here to Gresty Bridge, so it would be easy to get to. Nevertheless, I'd rather be knowing if I had a ticket far earlier than they are planning.

Thanks Julian!

What I *could* see happening - at the risk of sounding negative here - is that DRS will inform the successful applicants as planned, but it could be too late for some people and consequently the turnout of people who were successful in applying may not be 100% as they expected. Simply because of the timescales involved in being informed and the day of the event.

However we'll see what happens as I have no idea what DRS are planning to do with this.

I find myself agreeing with you here   I have also sent DRS an e-mail regarding the Gresty Bridge open day, also had no e-mail back to say that they knew of my intrest, I was in the draw etc. I agree the way the Kingmoor open day was done with a first come - first served basis was better. Also it is no good letting people know 2 weeks before hand, they need to know at least a month in advance, some people may need to book time off work, if they are travelling far (like many did to the Kingmoor one) then most would want to book well in advance to get a cheaper ticket, I mean what does a on the day Euston - Crewe and rtn retail at these days? Still I wish everyone success with there applications for a ticket ;)
