Any Ideas?

Hi all,

When I travelled on a few FSR services throughout Scotland a couple of weeks ago, a passenger opposite me was sat in SC, with a FC AP Single ticket, which the conductor noticed.

I asked her about where you can buy FC AP Singles, as I've never seen them available on FSR before, even though I can easily buy the very good value SC AP Singles.

Although I've since realised that FC is no where near worth the upgrade, and is a huge rip-off, if you've not managed to get an AP FC single, I was wondering why i've not been able to buy any online?

The only way i can get FC AP singles on FSR, is to look for FSR & connections tickets, combining them with NXEC/VT, which isn't any good if I only want to travel within Scotland, on FSR routes.

Thanks for any advice on FC AP prices, even though it doesn't really appear to be worth it.

Hmm... I'm sure I've seen AP FC tickets available before on thetrainline... when I was going to Aberdeen... and yes! GLQ-ABD 1st advance tickets come in at £18.50-£44.50! More than double the SC cost! That said, whilst I can find the tickets, I can't find any availability on any trains :?

Not at all worth the cost, though. FSR and FC never really go well together (with the possible exception of the Caledonian Sleeper) and I personally would not pay the extra. SC on FSR is very good, especially on 170s, and certainly sufficient for any services operated within Scotland. I've done Glasgow-Dundee and occasionally onto Aberdeen on the turbos and I've always found Standard class to be very comfortable.

The only advantage that FC on a Turbo gets you, in ternms of comfort, is the internal doors between seating area and the vestibules (in winter you thus avoid the freezing gale that SC gets. On the exHT turbo's the exFC carriage still has these doors, and thus heh entire saloon is warm in winter (mostly).
