As always, the railway isn't known for speaking English...

This popped across my desk today.

"CENTRIX shows the IOUT is flicking and the IAVE Current has reduced"

I'm curious to know what that translates to in layman's/normal person and or complicated PWay language

Cheers as always.

Less sure about the last bit, but CENTRIX is a diagnostic and fault reporting platform used on the railway - once something is reported, it's passed digitally to the appropriate infrastructure maintainer.

Just guessing that these may be electric currents as they begin with I? And that OUT may mean something like output, and AVE may mean something like average?

So I don’t know but as a signaller having read into faults we’ve had, a low IAVE current normally equates to the Track circuit is to be no longer treated as reliable

That makes a lot of sense.

It was track circuit related.

Thanks good people.

Not P.Way, but technical terminology used within the S&T. This is very likely referring to the electrical characteristics of a digital TI21/EBI Track 200 track circuit equipment.

IOUT is the current value of the electrical current to the output signalling relay.
Flicking is a very highly technical term (!) that means that the current is unstable and is bouncing between various values (not good).
IAVE is the average input current to the digital receiver. A reduced value normally indicates a degradation of the performance of either the track circuit transmitter, the track side equipment, the rail/sleeper insulations (biscuits and pads), or the track is flooded/very wet/poor ballast conditions.

The system probably lacks the ability to output in fancy text, i.e. Iₒᵤₜ and Iₐᵥₑ :)

One of these days we need to do a pinned thread in this forum with all the acronyms and translations etc.
