In my old job Trucks were infinitely preferable to buses, we could fit a truck or a trailer in the Workshop (by splitting them) - then some idiot managed to sell Citaro Gs to the Eden Project, can't split a bus

I don't think artic buses are too bad, but when I lived in York I hated the bendybuses on the number 4 to Acomb!

Well First Glasgow has artics on no 9 route and they are awful . I like trucks but i like the trailers of European (partic eastern europe/ Turkey )Trucks as they look better than our trailers . Not a fan of DAF trucks

Ah, the infamous FTR, FirstGroups's very own answer to the tram! :roll:

To be fair, I think the vehicles are actually quite nice, it was just the debacle with the "correct change only" single ticket machine which kept failing! Leaving massive queues and First forced to let people ride free.

At least they eventually brought in conductors, and removed the "streetcars" from evening and Sunday runs.

Neither am I. They look horrible. I quite like the Scania trucks.

I like the scania artic's which cardiff bus operate. The FTR's we have in Swansea i think are ok, but i would have much prefered trams. Mind you the service does seem to be very popular especially at peak times or when there is a match at the liberty stadium where extra vehicles have to be drafted in to cope.

Sorry Iam old enough to remember the REAL artics when Sheffield had the first ones in the UK , not these horrible modern things.

Right Iam off to have a snooze now due to my age !

Here is a photo of one of the second batch , its one of the dual purpose ones , unfortunatley it is having a bit of a problem with the brakes binding , hence the fire brigade .

I've just found an all-new reason to not like FCC, who are already among my least favourite TOCs: THEY STOLE OUR BUS!!!!! We had to give up three of our twelve artics for the benefit of FCC?! Not amused! (Would explain the change of registration though, which I had wondered about.)

10180-2 used to be in a group of nine, the other six of which are awful in comparison to the non-artic versions (the best buses First S&A run). AND I HAVE TO USE THEM TO UNI AND BACK!!! Still, they're better than the older W-reg ones we've got; ruddy things.

Can't beat a good old Scania T series in my eyes. Failing that (as they're no longer in production), a Volvo NH.

I can't stand bus travel. The coaches are always boiling, the cup holders are stuffed with chewing gum, you're crawling along in the slow lane at 60mph sitting on the previous seat occupants lunch, with hordes of people shouting all around you and about five inches of legroom.

Though I must say, I'd like to try a trip on that coach!

I don't like bus/coach travel much either (although I have been on a few excellent private hires from an award winning local operator).

It's a NEOPLAN Jumbocruiser and apparently it ceased mainstream production in 1992.

It's strange the set up with FCC, as the buses are run by first Northampton transport, but out based at Luton parkway, they must return to northampton for service, and I guess a normal petrol station to fill up (unless there is some kind of delivery service / 3rd party maintenance, service, filling going on.

If you want old trucks you should go to China, Its amazing how much load you can get on trucks out there too!

As someone who has driven all makes of modern truck i'd rate them as follows....

1st/Best, The Mercedes Actros MP2 or MP3, good looking trucks, very big cab (with proper flat floor), very well built, very well thought out, good to live in, lovely easy to use Power Shift gearbox and an absolute pleasure to drive! (with the 460hp V6 Engine or bigger V8)

2nd, M.A.N TGX XXL (with the 440hp engine or bigger), again good looking truck, very big cab (again with proper flat floor), not quite got the same 'qulity' as the Merc and not quite as weell thought out inside, still its good to drive and live in, nice to drive but the auto gearbox and throttle can be a bit on the slow side to react when pulling out onto roundabouts etc!

3rd, DAF95 or DAF105 Super Space Cab, again good all round truck but lacks a proper flat floor in the cab, however the cab is very big and a good place to live in all week, personally i prefer it with a manual gearbox than the auto box, needs to have the 430hp engine or bigger.

4th, Scania Highliner/Topliner, sorry there over priced and over rated in my eyes, they look nice but again lack a proper flat floor cab, bed is small and not that comfey, you need to spec up a V8 with the top trim to make it good but then the price is way to expensive, i currantly drive a Scania R440 Highline and while i can live with it (reluctantly) i'd happily swap it with any of the above!

5th, Volvo FH16 Globetrotter, good truck, big(ish) cab but again lacks that flat floor cab, also the raked windscreen takes up a lot of valueable space, having said that its very well built, the space it does have is used well........

Volvo are now part of Renault (or vice versa) the Renault Magnum is reputed to be a very good truck (its been in production for 20 years) the magnum is due to be retired by Renault as is the Volvo Globetrotter with the firms designing an all new truck, expect a cross between the Magnum and the Globetrotter, it should be a very good truck. Mercedes are also retireing the Actros with it being replaced with an all new model due to be released later this year!

As for artic buses..... i think all buses should be scrapped, arctic ones or not ;P
