Evening, I'm a newbie, apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I'm walking around Dentdale this Thursday, wondering if anyone knows if they'll be any other trains on the route (Leeds to Carlisle) besides the Northern local sprinters?

You need to check the freight trains to see if the service has actually left its starting point ( if not, it probably won't run that day!).
A number of these run north over Ribblehead viaduct and reverse at Blea Moor, so won't make it to Dentdale, but they make for interest at Ribblehead.

PS Welcome aboard!

A couple of quarries south of Ribblehead are only accessible from the Northbound line so after loading the trains run to Ribblehead to reverse and head back Leeds way.

Not sure if both quarries are still loading trains - possibly just the one near Horton but not Ribblehead.

Looking on RTT for last Thursday, 3 freights ran in daylight hours, RHTT northbound, Kirby Thore - Tees gypsum empties and the Carlisle - Chirk log train.

Many thanks for the reply and the link.
I've been on a few heritage rail tours and are amazed by the amount of people/spotters turning up in locations that you wouldn't expect, does the link include special trains? (a few months ago would the staycation express and the west coast railways excursions be on there?).
As an example, a few months ago the flying Scotsman with only 1 carriage came through the Wakefield area, i'm guessing it was a test run with only 1 carriage, but people/spotters knew it's route, i searched the internet to see how they knew but couldn't find anything, any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Railtours will only show on the specific days they are booked to run. For steam have a look at this site: https://www.railadvent.co.uk/steam-locomotives-on-the-mainline

All railtours, but especially light engine/Empty stock moves come with the massive caveat that they may run very early or very late depending on what is happening on the day.

A Twitter search often helps for steam especially the Scotsman and Tornado, but rail advent or railtourinfo are very good sites

Railtours/specials will usually be marked 'STP', you can filter them out on the left. Note that anything not in the working timetable will be marked STP so the results won't exclusively be railtours/specials.

Expanding on the above replies, there are only two daytime freight services in that area on Thursday:

- 6E97 Newbiggin to Tees Dock empty box wagons (Garsdale 11.20)

- 6J37 Carlisle to Chirck timber (Garsdale 15.07)
