I Don't know if the Railway Observer was in the habit of printing updates to earlier unknown/unidentified sightings, but have just been looking through some old editions on their website in an attempt to identify a train I witnessed back on 28th March 1979. As it happens I was in luck. The entry in the June 1979 edition states an unidentified pair of 31's were observed heading towards/seen at (?) Waterloo having worked an 0825 Sherborne (schools) relief - which answered my question. I can answer theirs in that I watched this train pass Clapham Junction at 10/55 with 31210 and 31271 at its head. I made no further reference to same, so can't say what they did next.

A bit late to the party then..... Guessed it would have been recorded in some way or other long since.

It might still be worth writing to the RO editor with your additional info...
