Looked at Sonics itinerary for tonight & there are plenty of trains going from GLQ to Dalmuir after 22:30, latest one he can get from GLQ is the 23:23 which gets him to the Dalmuir for 23:47, Sleeper departs at 23:51. Sonic also has the option of going to Westerton[sleeper dep 23:56] the 23:23 from GLQ calls at Westerton at 23:38.

my reservation is 2351 from dalmuir and im not risking a +4

my plan works masterfully. Retford High Level to Retford Low Level should be okay for me ")

okay itinery ")

when i get off the sleeper from Dalmuir. i will go into the lounge, showr, walk to kings cross and rest until 0948..

0948 KGX to Retford
1123 Retford to Saxilby (Needs this part)
1204 Saxilby to Doncaster (Needs this part)
1255 Doncaster to Peterborough arr 1342

now this is the fun part, if east coast are not on the time the back up will be the 1418 change at cambridge for ipswich and into london, scrapping the gravesend bit and Waterloo bit. and just heading over to Padd for the 1915 to Bristol Parkway, for Ashchurch ") bit of track i need is the high speed line connection Ebbsfleet to Gravesend

1345 Peterborough to Ipswich (Providing the East Coast in on time )
1543 Ipswich to Stratford arr 1645
1653 Bus to Stratford International arr 1658
1702 Stratford International to Gravesend arr 1718
1733 Gravesend to London Waterloo East arr 1827

Walk to London Waterloo

1835 Waterloo to Reading arr 1957
2018 Reading to Cheltenham Spa 2203 (where there is a bus number 41 from town centre @ 2230 to get me to tewkesbury)

if my 1728 is a few late another option is

1839 Waterloo to Basingtoke 1928
1937 Basingtoke to Reading 2002

into the 2018 to Cheltenham Spa

Thats all good as it is. Stick with it, as you have backups if needed. The +3 at Peterborough is possible if ontime (you could get from one train to another in 1min in a slow jog), but as you have a backup, its all ok if late.
As mentioned, if you miss connection at Peterborough, surely you could still head to Gravesend, but come back on HS1. Miss out Waterloo to Reading.

One bit. Your original plan at Waterloo is tight. That is a run from Waterloo East. But again, if you are still ok up to there, at least you have a back up plan.
Stick as you are. All looking good.

Get the 2309 if at all posssible, Dalmuir is not one of the places I'd choose to spend any amount of time in at that time of night - neds galore!

There one leaving GLC at 22:46, change at Partick where you'l have a 5min wait, & your connection arrives at Dalmuir at 23:18 or, wait at GLC for the 23:07 which goes direct to Dalmuir, arriving in at 23:32.

Your in 1st class and youd rather a voyager over a pendo??
Saying that, Carlisle is a much nicer place to change than WBQ.

Enjoy the meal. Question, are the WAGs busy in 1st class. I may do it one day.

Oh, and it seems as though Sonic has it all planned for tonight. He knows how he wants to get from Glasgow to Dalmuir, and he knows why he wants to do it that way.

OK then Sonic, flying up the WCML (lucky you), lets test this brain of yours. Within the next 30mins you will pass the only place that the WCML meets the sea (the Solway Firth doesnt count, as thats still too far from the sea). So where is this place?

never new that, and thats a familier stretch to me!

Lovely little village right on Morcambe Bay. 5mins North of Lancaster (not even that if on a train that doesnt stop). Youve got the level crossing and nice little signal box there.
