It seems that APL travel of Malmesbury has suddenly shut down (info from emergency message from Faresaver who are taking over some routes from Tuesday)

Here's the message Faresaver put out on Facebook:
From Tuesday 3rd January Faresaver will be operating the 33/x33 service between Chippenham and Devizes, previously operated by APL Travel. This follows the announcement of the closure of APL Travel at short notice yesterday.

Given the 'emergency' situation, the current timetable will be followed and any passes including Concessionary passes and Wiltshire issued student passes will be accepted. Please bear with us in the short term as we are doing our best to reprogram ticket machines, destination displays and route train drivers over the bank holiday weekend.

Their website is still live with no mention of closure. The Twitter account is also still live as I write this but nothing posted there since February 2015. Bad luck on all the staff though, especially at this time of year.

The Twitter account of "Wiltshire Buses" states: "@FaresaverBuses from 31/12, operating 33/X33 Chipp/Calne/Devizes due to APL no longer trading.Timetable same more info soon" so the shutdown looks certain. Best wishes to all the staff. I wonder if Stagecoach might end up taking some of the work if Wiltshire CC retender it.

Very true. Terrible news for the drivers and other staff - hope they all get sorted sharpish and that they've been paid up. As you say, even more stark news at this time of year. Fingers crossed they are all ok.

As for any replacement, Faresaver would be best placed to pick up the tenders if offered up.

I wonder if Faresaver might end up bolting the 33/X33 to the 87 to create a sort of through service at Devizes.

As for APL going under, shame it had to happen around this time of the year.

Can't see why they'd link them? The 33/X33 is tightly worked anyhow

there may be more logic in linking with X31 to do a throguh service to bath from calne and to make the devizes routes stronger.

very sad to see apl go though. its getting pretty sparse for operators around wiltshire in some places now.

Again, I can't see why they'd look to tag it onto the X31. Might create more reliability issues for little gain.
