Another fatality at Wimbledon...

More disruption at Wimbeldon due to another person being hit by a train. SWT has not had a good couple of months with fatalities, cable thefts, broken down trains etc....

Wimbledon in particular has seen a lot of bother; This being the second fatality in the last couple of weeks - not fun for any drivers going through there. What could be done to try and stop these unfortunate incidents? The Samaritans posters that have gone up don’t seem to be working...

Yes, last Thursday there was also a fatality at CLJ, I was working on the gateline at the time, apparently a male MOP stepped in front of a stopping service on Platform 11!

I gather he actually took a running jump, 5863 was the unit involved as I passed through shortly afterwards on the adjacent platform.

Regarding Comments from Passengers the one that happened on the WCML Line Last Week, a gentleman who got turfed off a LM Terminated Service At Coventry was rather abusive that he actually got arrested for breach of peace, he started having a go at myself, when i was going towards Birmingham, he asked me so when have you been told the next service is to Birmingham, i said 30mins he said this is outrageous, i quite said you have to understand that someone has died and before trains are allowed to run checks and crime investigators have to come in, he started shouting saying germany etc can do better than this, i said that was uncalled for as you have to feel the for the deceased family, therefore lots of people starting saying calm down sir etc, as he started saying ive seen people die when i work at steel works, it took less time than this to sort this out. BTP were on the station and arrested him after he refused to calm down.

You are always going to get people like that,not a lot you can do about it....

I used to get the hump when people had a go at me for being late when I actually make every effort to drive my train safely/professionally and on time (if possible).I've been lucky to land in such a good job.Has it's bad days but so does every job.

Now I don't really get the hump anymore but I do actually think the press does not help our cause a lot...Leaves on the line and wrong type of snow being the example when they don't actually know what they are talking about,always seem to report on negative aspects like we run trains late deliberately to antagonize the public...That's the last thing we want.

Most passengers are fine though and I do appreciate that..

Must admit I made a grave error on Facebook a week on Monday. I was catching an EC from KingsX to Leeds about 15:00 and they were all cancelled.

I had to get the EC service to Edinburgh and change at York. I won't go into detail but was told it was a jumper and so posted on my Facebook the usual comments about jumpers.

It was only later I found out the whole story that happened at Adwick. It was so very sad and a lesson learnt. I will never post again on Facebook about my rail travel delays.

The girl is going to make a full recovery I have been informed. Physically at least bless her. All thanks to the guard. Top man!

It's sad when a fatality occurs but, like I always say in these situations; "I have no sympathy for the person who commits suicide. However, I do feel sorry for what must have driven them to commit suicide in the first place. I feel sorry for the driver and the passengers because their are lees selfish ways to die and other people should not be dragged into their personal problems".

There was another fatality at Hayes and Harlington the other day.

It seems to me that fatality's on the railway are on the up lately?

We all agree Matthew.

But in my case I thought it was a jumper and it wasn't. I can't say anymore on that Adwick incident, accept yes, jumpers are....well..... people who needed help and a risk to us all who use the rail.

But as previous members have said, it's the public who have no idea about these things and their comments that annoy and hurt more.

And I was one of these without knowing.

Those Samaritans posters are all well and good, but the fact that many of them don't have a phone number on could often be the last straw for a suicidal person.... :cry:

I read a couple of days ago that since the start of this year 42 people have gone under trains on the SWT network. Only 19 people went the same way during the whole of last year...

According to NR's statistics from January 2011-July 2011 there have been 19 fatalities in the Wessex region.
