I'm currently on the 11:55 MAN - EUS, which is late because the 11:35 was delayed and left 2 minutes before our scheduled departure. It was rammed when I got on at Wilmslow, not helped by being a 9 car.

At least the shop is open on this one.
Apparently that train used platform 2 at Manchester Picc, rare for a 390?

How are Avanti going to introduce the additional 1tph to Liverpool with the Hitatchis when they can barely manage with what they have now?

They aren’t ;)

Or if they do, it will be a complete clusterF a la Manchester recently... we’ll be timetabled 2 tph and one per hour will be reliably cancelled

Already 17 cancellations in for tomorrow now and as they are in before 2200 they will be 'P' code and they won't get a penalty for them, which is a joke.

Throughout this period of nonsense, have Avanti organised ticket acceptance via Edinburgh with LNER?

Why would they?
LNER can’t even run the service that they should be, without carrying Avanti customers as well.

LNER are much more likely to get you to where you're going than Avanti
It’s unlikely however that they have the space to convey 9/11 carriages worth of Avanti’s passengers in addition to their own every day every time Avanti screw up

Completely understandable, however I rather imagine AWC passengers would prefer to stand to London than be stranded somewhere like Preston overnight.

They need to go back to the 4tph urgently, and only even consider upping it when they are reliably getting to say 99.5% punctuality and reliability daily.

They can't function without overtime. Other TOC's decimated this week without it too, such as Northern.

Plus the significant number of Southerner students would be happy getting the 43 down from Rusholme/Fallowfield/Withington where most of them live - indeed I think it'd put a bigger dent in NatEx/Megabus than Avanti! It didn't work that well for First North Western when they tried it, but the market has changed massively.
first north western? Unless I’m misunderstanding you, FNW didn’t run anything to MIA from the West Midlands

Might have been referencing the fairly short-lived London Euston->Manchester Airport service in c. 1998/99 which had an intermediate call (rather randomly) at Tamworth.

Does anyone know why trains are using the Slow Lines between Watford and Ledburn Jn today?

It looks like there's an engineer's train, 6G45, that's been sitting at Watford Junction plat 6 since the early hours of the morning. I presume this has broken down?

I'm also surprised to see weekday closures of the DC lines. It looks like 6G45 was due to go to Watford in connection with those engineering works.

I imagine it's because GWR services a large section of the London/South commuter belt. Cliche though it may sound, there'd be an outcry of the first order if the service was as pants down there as it is up here. No one really gives a b**ger about us woad-painted northerners.

Without wanting to start an irrelevant argument, might want to check the economy of the far SW one day. But, thankfully, it appears luck was on GW's side ( other than yesterday ), although I suspect the current weather down here is going to cause some problems...

FGW were utterly atrocious for a while & then turned things around, are important parts of that team still in place?

How can this be allowed to happen. It shows just how badly the railway in general is out of touch with customer service.

What happened to the passengers who were destined for these stations?
RMT & TSSA are on an overtime ban. Station staff will be locking up and going home bang on time. Expect this to happen all the way into the new year.

Forget about the Unions versus Government stuff for a minute.... how on earth is this ever acceptable on any level? If I ran Avanti, I'd be utterly embarrassed and offering my resignation.

The only good thing about those boards is the 'catch alternative train' for the cancelled stops. As long as the ticket acceptance is confirmed...

How does the "next fastest train to" bit work? Jumps out in that image that the very slightly delayed 1430 calls at Lancaster & Penrith (etc.); shows fastest train to Lancaster 1530, and fastest train to Penrith 1630.

Seeing quite a few comments from passengers who are arriving into Euston from late evening services, which are running anywhere between 60-120 minutes late. This subsequently resulted in them missing their last connections home, making them ‘stranded’ at Euston.

Not knowing what time you will arrive into your destination, especially at night, is totally unacceptable.

Some comments here, here and here

Counted around 11 cancellations on Euston/Crewe-Chester/Holyhead (and vice versa) yesterday. The morning Wrexham also cancelled.

Jam packed pair of TFW 153s on trips between Crewe and Chester leaving considerable numbers behind hour after hour.

I really feel for the passengers here. Its not TFWs fault that Avanti had basically abandoned their service, and judging by the fact it was a pair of 153/9s they were already desperate for units so nothing else available to strengthen.

People left behind at Crewe, having to wait an hour for the same pair of 153s to return hoping to get on next time!

I’d love to see this in a timetable. Any takers? It can’t have been first north-western though…

The DC is closed all week, relaying job. 6G45 wasn’t sat in platform 6 all day. This must have been a ghost headcode. Certainly wasn’t showing on my panel and we’ve used the DF all day.

Possession of fasts extended for work at Bourne End.
