Another Eurostar Fails

Another Eurostar has failed today inside the tunnel, and it took two hours for it to be towed out. Emergency timetables operating.

'EUROSTAR has launched an urgent investigation after another train failed in the Channel Tunnel today. 236 passengers on a morning service from Brussels were stranded for two hours before their train was towed to Ashford. Eurostar is now running an emergency service and urging passengers not to travel unless they must.'

The recent failures in the tunnel are starting to worry me. I worry about what they would do in an 'emergency" such as a fire, etc.

I know (well, I hope) the procedures for pulling failed trains out of the tunnel are different to those invoked in a fire or similar but given the effectiveness of their preparations for more regular and mundane incidents, god help us if there is a major emergency down there.

There have already been two major fires in the tunnel since it opened, and trains and passengers were evacuated from the tunnel with no loss of life or major injuries.

After their problems with the snow, I think everybody and their Mothers are going to be looking for things to criticise Eurostar for. it is the same after any big incident - for weeks after even the smalest of incidents make the headlines.
