another dm interview thread

Hey everyone.
After a 6 month dry spell with fgw I have finally been told I have a dm interview in june. Please help and advise which areas I must revise, what sort of prep work did people do. Im thinking of going round depot and trying to schedule to meet someone. I really reallt want to get this job. Thanks in advance, you guys are always so good

Hiya!

Going to a depot to do your research on the traction used, routes they sign and who your future managers may be is always going to be a tick in the box in terms of them seeing how serious you are about the job!

However it's vitally important you do your research on the rest of the company in terms of who the directors are.....how many stations they serve.....the traction that particular toc uses.......who owns the company and franchise length etc.

Also do your research into what the role of a train driver is (apart from the obvious) for example it may be the drivers role within that toc to conduct door tests before the train goes into service.......it's not always the case that the first time a driver sees his train is on a platform it may be his duty to collect it from the depot.....try and look at the customer service responsibility side to the driving role as well. Make sure you look at all the responsibilities within the role

Have a think on your personal qualities........for example what you could bring to the role/offer the company that the thousands of others couldn't and also think about past involvement you've had in certain incidents such as safety incidents and emergency incidents and the role that YOU played in it
