Firefighters assess the damage after the huge blaze at First Call Coaches in Merthyr Tydfil
A huge blaze has swept through a depot in Merthyr Tydfil, causing 26 coaches to catch fire.

More than 40 firefighters tackled it at First Call Coaches at Pant Industrial Estate on Sunday.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it arrived at the scene shortly after 01:00 GMT to find the fire had also spread into the main workshop.

"Prompt action prevented a fire from spreading to surrounding businesses," a spokesman said.

South Wales Police and the fire service are both investigating.

I had a look at the news article - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-30615428 - and that is probably most of their fleet which could cause many problems for their passengers in the new year.

Wonder what started this one but I know what I would say if I was a betting man. Hope this doesn't put more people in the town out of work though and my thoughts are with the employees who must now be wondering what will come next.

Edit: Just looked up FCT on the TAN. Licence PG1092301 for only 15 vehicles and no trailers so sounds like all their fleet + withdrawn ones + perhaps some in from other firms for maintenance work?

They did briefly operate under the Silverline brand including various routes against Stagecoach around Merthyr and currently operate the X75 Merthyr Tydfil - Swansea service.

1st Call do operate some vehicles around the Bridgend/Porthcawl area's so they should still have some operational vehicles.

Sad news especially at this time of year so worrying for the staff employed although I do think other operators will help 1st Call especially considering the fire which broke out at the stagecoach depot in Methyr Tydfil a couple of years ago.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Local operators Edwards Coaches and New Adventure travel are said to be some of the operators who have offered assistance to 1st Call Travel including operating routes on 1st Calls Behalf.

New Adventure have recently put a few buses for sale on Ebay etc so a possibility these could be finding their way to Merthyr on a temporary basis
