Whilst not related to any of the fires on these vehicles, an accident of this nature does bring into question the wider safety aspects of such a large passenger carrying vehicle.
As the driver has been arrested, there must be some considerable concern as to whether or not he was excercising due care and attention to the operation of his vehicle at the time.
The route this vehicle takes from the stop at Clelents Road, Ilford to Rabbits Road, Manor Park, involves three sharp left turns, and one turn to the right. The bus has to pass through SEVEN sets of traffic lights, excluding any pedestrian crossings controlled by lights!
The Clements Road stop is also directly outside the Registered Office of East London Bus Group Ltd. Ironic!

Any accident of this nature would bring into question the safety aspects...bendy, decker, single decker, midibus or minibus. Whilst bus routes are difficult, much of the traffic management in place is perfectly navigable with skilful drivers.
Some of the standards of driving I've seen in Central London have appalled me, from drivers of deckers and bendies from many companies, and it's not the routing, but the driver who will probably be questioned about this.
Most, if not all, varieties of turns/corners/lights/traffic management are navigable with artics, and in the cases where it's not, you'll also find you will have trouble fitting a decker or a single decker through, if you can.
