Another bad day on the ECML

More problems this morning according to the BBC:

A person hit by train at at Welwyn Garden City. Delays of around 60 mins, ticket acceptance in force accross East Coat, FCC, GA and LO

Hope all involved are ok and hope there are not any fatalities.

A letter from the BTP released under FOI stating that from 01/01/2012 to 02/04/2012 inclusive there were 147 persons under or hit by trains (not all fatal, thankfully). An average of 1.58 per day. Includes London Underground.

Didn't look good on the way past this morning but the line was reopened at about 0800h.

It was just south of Welwyn Garden City.
The train I was on was going to be diverted via Hertford North but the line reopened while we were at Stevenage so went the normal route on the slow line albeit with delays. Trains were queueing on the fast line through WGC. There was an EC 225 waiting in platform 3 at Potters Bar had been there for some time.

Credit where credit's due, FCC were much more on the ball with communication last might and this morning, and the general commuter murmur was much more forgiving as a result, even when we were treated to fun-size trains in the evening peak last night due to all the displacement.

(The pax left behind at FPK may have been less forgiving, admittedly...)

Good to see some good PR about them handling the disruption, well done FCC!

EC are going to be a HST down til Wens at the earliest, its stuck the other side of the landslip at Inverness. The chieftain will be starting/finishing at Perth for the next few days.

Never thought of that, are HSTs passed that way? Probably have to get a Scotrail driver to accompany the EC driver though.

They must be surely as it's got to have been used before now to get HSTs to Aberdeen if they've failed or something? I would assume that they would as it doesn't seem like a route that EC would be that keen on keeping their drivers current on, which (assuming they are actually cleared) is probably why they haven't got it over to Aberdeen yet as they're probably waiting for ScotRail to get them a driver.

Yeah failed unit has confirmed on the other thread they do (sorry mods didnt notice the other thread when mentioning the landslip on this thread). The driver from the 0755 this am may now have bust his hours so could be tomorrow before the move takes place?

Agreed - they did a good job. It has been a hard week for them, but today there was a definite sense of order and control. Job well done under difficult circumstances.

I have been that way on an HST; Inverness to King's cross via Aberdeen about 25 years ago!

GNER did that diversion a few years back, not sure if its been done since NX days though.
