I have a gold card for zone 1-3

Can I buy two adults a discounted travelcard for two other people.

At Canada Water I was told no, at Victoria I was told yes

What's the truth.

1/3 off Standard and First Class Anytime and Off-Peak tickets for the cardholder and up to three adults aged 16 or over travelling with them

Isn't there something in the rules that if you are buying a travelcard with a Gold card discount for other people then your Gold Card must include at least the same zones.

So as you only have a zones 1-3 travelcard and will presumably be buying a zones 1-6 for your friends then I think you'll need to get a zone 1-6 travelcard for yourself.

Annual Gold Card holders do not need to purchase a ticket for themselves if the journey being made is covered by their Annual Season ticket

No need to buy yourself a ticket, assuming you're remaining in zones 1-3, and the other passengers will be accompanied by you at all times

To be fair there was one, you had to buy a zones 1-6 Travelcard if you didn't have zones 1-6 on your Goldcard (only 1-6 travelcards got a discount), I actually didn't realise it had gone, not that I sell many GC Travelcards these days, being based in the northwest and all. Has the rule gone? Or does NRES have different information to iKB again? I'll have to check when I'm next in work, just to be sure.

On the page it says:

When buying discounted Day Travelcards for accompanying adults or children, the Annual Gold Card holder must ensure their Annual Season ticket is also valid for travel in the London Fare Zone they wish to travel to, otherwise they must purchase a discounted Off-Peak Day Travelcard for themselves as well.

So no need to buy one for yourself if you only travel 1-3 from what it says... if they make you, tell the third person to hide and say you're buying one for yourself and one for one of your friends

Is that from NRES or iKB? I'm quite capable of reading NRES from home, I need a railway computer to access iKB.

That quote does appear to be from the public NRES, but is similar to the current iKb wording.

Just a thought which I know is a bit off what the OP was asking, but an Off-Peak Day Travelcard Zones 1-6 with Goldcard discount appears to be £8?
If either of the two persons travelling with the OP has an Oyster card (say a normal Adult one, no Railcard discount loaded etc), the daily cap for PAYG zones 1-3 appears to be £7.60 (Peak or Off-peak).

As I say, just a thought....
