Annual Gold Card discount not applied to all split tickets

I recently purchased an off-peak return Kenilworth - Oxford for travel on a Saturday using the Scotrail app (due to its ability to issue split tickets), intending to use my Annual Gold card. I received two tickets: a Kenilworth - Banbury Off Peak Return WITHOUT the Gold Card discount applied and a Banbury - Oxford Off Peak Return WITH the Gold Card discount applied.

I queried this with Scotrail and their customer service responded by advising me that Kenilworth is outside the Gold Card area -- I know that this is incorrect.

However, I just tried to recreate the booking via the forum's ticketing website and it would provide exactly the same tickets, i.e. no Gold Card discount applied to the Kenilworth - Banbury split ticket (see attached).
What am I missing here?

Did it book you onto a XC service from Leamington Spa for the leg to Oxford? If so Gold Cards are not valid on XC north of Banbury

Ah, this explains it. Thank you.
I was aware that some operators are excluded, but was unaware that some operators have geographic restrictions on gold card validity.

Yes, the Gold Card area originally mirrored the Network Railcard area. Subsequently there were expansions as far NW as Shrewsbury, Stafford and Worcester, and to cover all of East Anglia.

For the expanded areas to the NW of the original area, only West Midlands Trains (London Northwestern/West Midlands Railway), Chiltern and Transport for Wales accept Gold Card discounted tickets. CrossCountry don't accept them north of Banbury.

Avanti and LNER opted out of the Gold Card scheme altogether some years back (or rather, their predecessors did) so it isn't valid at all on their services, even within the Network Railcard area.

These restrictions are not communicated properly. You have to check the Gold Card validity map and cross-reference the list of participating operators for each area with a map that shows all operators' services to realise that there are even any restrictions.

Given that the National Rail Conditions of Travel state that ordinarily, you may use any train company unless your ticket's route restriction states otherwise, I would suggest the enforceability of the above train operator restrictions is somewhat doubtful. That's not to say I would suggest 'trying it on', but if you were to be charged for a new ticket (or worse) then you might have some grounds for appeal.

It’s worth checking fares from the new WMT stations such as Willenhall and Darlaston as I’m not not they’ve been set up to apply Gold Card discounts.

This happened when Coventry Arena opened a few years back.

It also happened with Cambridge South when that was added to the fares database, which broke Gold Card and Network Railcard discounts for journeys passing through it such as Cambridge to London.

And Wixams which was still breaking Midland Main Line journeys for 16-17 Savers until today...

The Railcard geography not being updated properly is a tale as old as time. You'd think that someone would've taken responsibility, sat down and considered implementing some data validation by this point.

It's completely inconsistent. Gold Card discounted tickets are valid on CrossCountry services between Ely and March, but not between Banbury and Leamington Spa. The map on the website implies that it's not permitted to travel from Tame Bridge Parkway to Wolverhampton via Bescot Stadium with a Gold Card discounted ticket, but in fact this is perfectly permitted. It's an arbitrary approach.

I am sure if Winslow ever opens that will be completely broken as well.
