OVO Energy are running a Saatchi & Saatchi inspired TV advert showing a man outside in the city street being chased by a range of household appliances with the overtones of being able to control his home energy usage. If that be the case, his home energy usage will not cover electrical household appliances in situations exterior to his home as shown.

Not on tv but online I keep seeing adverts for hotels.com which feature a dancing bell and is accompanied with a stupid jingle as follows-
“He’s a bell, he’s a boy- he’s Bellboy!”
Bellboy’s smugness just grinds my gears and I want to smash him into smithereens

To add to this, the “member savings” bellboy ad has the phrase “ save up to 20%, less than 50% but more than 0%” . I mean..

Car manufacturer adverts that show the product, usually a left-hand drive vehicle, stating that "vehicle shown not UK specification." Well, why not make the ad showing a suitable specification vehicle?

Going back to the much-derided Trivago advert, if said 'customer' is supposedly paying £190, which is stated to be 10% off, does that mean his pre-discount room rate was exactly £211.11?

And now there's a new Trivago advert and it's even worse.

And what people forget about most of these comparison sites is that you don't get ATOL protection if things go wrong.
Also when things go wrong you're usually in a much better place if you book directly with a hotel.

Cant believe that the Lynx Lower Body Spray advert isn't attracting complaints, sniffing of strangers nether regions isn't something I would expect to see on TV

Another gruesome one is the sure whole body deodorant advert.

When I was a young child in the early 1950s, mothers used to tell their children they were going "ta-ta's" is they were going out somewhere, so I was somewhat taken aback by an advert for a body deodorant using the same name for a body part.

As a general rule I don't watch TV adverts as they annoy me so much, but if I'm forced to watch something on commercial linear tv. I think I annoy everyone else in the room by commenting on the amount of small white text on every UK TV advert these days. I never remember this from years ago?
The text is mostly is unreadable, and usual says everything in the advert they are telling you is not true anyhow! How on earth do they get away with it?

I have just seen one in the series of Pure Cremations TV adverts in which a woman talks of "the cost of a hearse and a rushed ceremony at a crematorium". No where was mentioned a normal church funeral service than can take some time.

I increasingly see staff in Tesco and Asda working in 'plain clothes'. I don't know if they're staff waiting to be issued uniform, but they often appear to know what they're doing, in a way a brand new staff member may not.

Religious funerals are very much a minority event these days, the total for all religions being well under 20% of total funerals. Conventional church funerals would be a fraction of that.

I have never attended such a service, but I am surprised why she should think those types of services are thought to be rushed. Could someone with knowledge of such services confirm that such services are rushed.

You say that conventional church funerals will be a fraction of 20% of the religious funerals held these days. As more and more of the elderly population die, these being the type of people who still seem to be the main users of conventional religious funerals, will it be the case that Christian, Muslim, Jewish places of worship will cease burials in the years to come?

At one time crematoria in Liverpool had a clergyman (before female priests) each day on a rota. One former participant shared that on some days they were so busy that after a few services they struggled to remember the gender, let alone then name of the deceased.

Ouch... that's not good... and probably rather depressing for the duty clergy as well...

Which makes one wonder why so many cremation adverts; it's hardly the environment friendly alternative they claim either, all that gas needed? Is it possible they are coming out with all these annoying adverts on TV because demand is actually falling at the moment?




Incidentally... although this bit is going off topic... I have been toying with the idea of specifying being buried with a plank of wood under the top half of my back and under my head, with a large spring under the head end of it. Then, in 1000 years time, when some archaeologist discovers me and carefully prises off the lid.......

When my late wife died in 2021, she was buried in the new family grave that I had arranged and there will be three more spaces available for future family burials. Money was no object as I held a Co-op gold Funeral plan which ensured the best quality coffin and a hearse and two limousines. The church was packed to capacity and during the full funeral service, both my twin sons read eulogies about their mother. People had travelled from Cornwall and Cumbria to attend the service and the wake was booked for over 60 covers that I paid for in advance. I now have another Co-op gold Funeral plan to cover my eventual demise.

There were many new graves in that cemetery with only one interment and I imagine that families will not ignore family graves such as those.

Have actually just arrived home from a cremation. The vicar was not British (nothing wrong with that), but unfortunately his grasp of English was not too good.

The deceased’s name was Janet. However instead of pronouncing it ‘Jan-et‘ he pronounced it ‘Jane-et’. The family were not amused by this, but having been friends with Janet for a long time, many of us thought Janet would have found it quite funny.

I now have another Co-op gold Funeral plan to cover my eventual demise.

Of those currently advertising funeral/cremation plans on national TV, the Co-op is the only one I would trust to still be in business when the time comes.

Those skin care / shampoo / cosmetics adverts where the weasel-wording small-print at the bottom of the screen declares "78% of 49 agree" or some such. There's even one doing the rounds at the moment that says "100% of 59 agree" !

Not exactly what I would regard as a statistical sample ......
