Would anyone like to explain the logic of this thread to me?

To be honest, I don't think there's much future in that job except on stuffed up preservation jobbies.
The future's robotic, the future's professional voice folk recording swaythes of stations and getting ****ed off by the time they reach WEYMOUTH!!
If you've any contacts within the "choosing the voice for our automated PA system department", then I'm interested.

Electronic voices are great until they go wrong. Then they aren't so great. When Phil Sayer breaks at Birmingham New Street chaos normally ensues.
As with any Auto system - when it goes wrong, it goes badly wrong!

Yeah, they don't sound as good and often get information wrong, but it's a lot cheaper and as such that'll be the method that gets employed.
About the only thing the TOCs do get to do, is choose the voice of their announcements!

Well, it was originally a bit of a jokey post in another thread aimed at Julian G (in a friendly way obviously), but a mod decided to make it a new thread of it's own. So really there is no logic of it, as it wasn't designed as thread in the first place

I think there's a certain mental deficiency, where the brain does not develop correctly and remains at a pre-double figures level of maturity. Can sometimes encourage the development of unusual and slightly disturbing interests...

They're harmless fun. Admittedly, it gets irritating when JDS constantly tries to play them over MSN (less so these days thank goodness), but there's no harm in putting them here where people can choose to click on them or not.
As for Gareth Hale, he was more into songs than announcements.
Fred - I suggest being more tactful, as if you are not, then you will find people are rude back to you.
