Animals on the Line...At Peckham ??

Evening all,

The Southern website is reporting 15 minute delays via Peckham Rye due to Animals on the Line. Now, looking at Google maps, around the station is fairly built up, so what could it be ?

I wouldnt think that a fox would count as an animal on the line (would be common for that area).

It could be pretty much anything, sometimes it could be a flock of birds or the likes, it's just whatever turns up! USUALLY, in urban areas it's more likely to be a flock of geese or bird of some sort.

It might be someone's dog. The dog itself wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but quite often a dog on the track has an owner not far behind trying to catch it, which would result in trains being cautioned.

Probably a deer. You'd be surprised where you find those things.

I'm surprised more livestock/ animals don't get fried by the 3rd rail, or do they?

The third rail lines are littered with dead animals-mainly foxes and badgers between the juice and running rail. Wasnt working yesterday so not sure what the animals were but will try and find out when back in work on wed. A few weeks ago there was a dog closing the line at Peckham rye-think it cane from the park between Peckham rye and crofton road junctions.

An (English) Eurostar driver saw a big stag on the LGV Nord, not something you want to hit at 300km/hr. He did not know the French for a deer, or indeed for antlers, so described it to Control as a cow with a pantograph.

must be 10+ years ago now we were working at hunters lane rugby when we seen two dogs wandering about over the rails,took us over 45mins to catch them with trains travelling at caution through rugby,finally got hold of them halfway to hillmorton but the trains were well stacked up,turns out they escaped from an open back door.

I have heard that story before, albeit, from a different perspective as it being a French crew not knowing the English IIRC
