If it's a bureaucratic pain to close one station when you're about to open another, why not just close Angel Road one day and open Meridian Water the next day as the new 'Angel Road.' Wait a few weeks or months, and then change the name. No need to go through the parliamentary procedure...

Even when Rochester station moved a few hundred metres down the line, keeping the same name, they still had to go through the full closure procedure for the old station.

Two points:

• The previous access to Angel Road was from the eponymous viaduct. The relocation to Conduit Lane came about when the road was upgraded in the early 90s. So effectively it's almost a reversion to what was in place for 100+ years!
• Given the current level of service, I suspect anyone wanting to catch a train for most of the day either walks or catches a bus to one of Edmonton Green, Silver Street or even Tottenham Hale.

Angel Road is not the most inviting of stations, I used to look after the Swecoin machines there. It is very rarely used, not too well lit so also a safety concern. The 192 bus is very regular to Tottenham Hale and connects to Edmonton and Enfield. The houses are yet to be built but there is a vast expanse ready for properties to be built. Proximity to IKEA Tottenham plus the Tesco Extra is useful at Meridian Water (new OHLE is up, not sure if energised yet) as they want to help with regeneration. Might also take pressure off Northumberland Park on match days when Spurs return to their new stadium. If they kept it there it would be like the short stop on the Underground between South Ealing and Northfields. Angel Road sees little use, rather like Maryland after Stratford on the GE...

The 192 bus is very regular to Tottenham Hale and connects to Edmonton and Enfield.

I know the frequency is quite high, but the 192 buses are so small and often packed full when starting at Tottenham Hale, such that people struggle to board even a few stops along. As someone who occasionally goes to Ikea by public transport (i.e. when not planning on buying bulky furniture), I am looking forward to having an option to get there by train.

Having seen people trying to get furniture on to the 192, I wonder how many people will get their flat pack furniture on to the train instead!
