Finally got around to catching up on your trip reports. You've been very busy indeed and your trips have certainly been productive!

Sorry to hear you missed a few connections! I have some quite tight ones coming up on my trip on Friday, so having read your report I might try and have a few contingency plans up my sleeve... just in case!

I really enjoyed reading about your two days in East Anglia. I used to live in Norwich as a kid, and we used to visit Brundall all the time, so it's nice to read about places from my childhood :)

I too was impressed by the GA 156s when I was up that way last month - I think they've done a really good job.

Yeah Great Yarmouth is a bit of a dump. My wife is from there and she'd wholeheartedly agree with that statement, so no-one can tell me I'm being too harsh! Apparently it's all part of the charm of the place!

Entertaining reports indeed! I didn't even know you could get loco haulage on passenger service in Anglia!

What are the refurbished mk3s behind the GA 90s like?

And they change to 37s from 47s in the next couple weeks.

I really need to get back to Norwich at some point this year, my AGA DMU list is long.

An absolutely brilliant read, full of my sort of humour too! As I'm on my phone, I can't currently view the photos but will do when I can.

Extremely productive, even though it didn't go to the original plan! Oh, and it's Witham ;)

I watched part 3 of Peter Kay's Car Share in the early hours of this morning, loved it and I suspect you will too!

Shenfield Metro is indeed a goldmine of 315s, every 10 minutes and pairs all day.

I need to return to Anglia, and it is being considered for July, pending time off being granted etc. Thanks for another excellent read!

This report is a more concise report and takes in numerous days because this is a holiday more than a spotting trip.

Thursday 21st May 2015: An early start on what is going to be a long day. I am off to Fort William for a week to do some walking and an attempt on Ben Nevis, so at 0717 I was boarding dud 350410, which under normal circumstances I would be rather upset abut but seeing I don't need any of the 350/4 units and that I have a reserved seat and this is a holiday and not a spotting trip and seeing it has only cost me £16.30 single to get from Manchester to Glasgow I am in no way able to complain, a rather uneventful trip up the West Coast and we arrive in Glasgow bang on time which gives me about 1hr 40mins to get to Glasgow Queen Street for my next train to Fort William, which has cost me £13.30 for a single, just goes to show there are some good deals out there if you know where to look.

The train was formed of 3 class 156 units, the first being 156456 which was to detach en - route and go to Oban while 156447 and 156450 continue to Fort William where 156450 detaches and finishes the journey to Mallaig. Normally I would move through the train during my journey to get each unit for haulage but seeing I had a reserved seat and huge bag for the week I remained in the unit I was assigned to. I did have a rant on Facebook in regards to the lack of luggage space seeing that this was basically a tourist service....I was soon eating my own words as I realised once we had left the urban area that the lack of luggage space was a compromise and a compromise worth paying wih the huge windows and plenty of them the scenery was awe inspiring, first I spotted the Queen Mary 2 at dock in Greenock and not long after that the Loch Long appeared and the mixture of the wild countryside and the big oil tankers docked doing whatever they needed to be doing seemed to fit well together for some strange reason. From this point The Highlands really began and your eyes are fixated to the windows and a hush came over the carriage as everyone was doing the same thing, not a tablet, not a phone was in use, with the wild and untamed countryside of lochs and mountains passing the windows I thought I had seen everything, little was I to know what was to come.
All the stations along the route serve either very small communities or what appears to be no communities at all. At Crianlarich we say farewell to the Oban portion of the train, that now leaves two to continue to Fort William. Not long afterwards we depart and it isn't long that I see a bridge across the Glen and it isn't too long after that I realise we are heading towards it on a horse shoe. This turns out to be Ben Doran horseshoe where the railway hugs the side of Ben Doran and what a master stroke by the builders of this railway, they could have easily built a massive viaduct across the valley but decided to hug the mountain instead and what a sight it makes.
As we progress the line becomes more remote, I was going to say bleaker but that isn't the right word.....more wild beauty would suit the views and it isn't long before we hit Rannoch Moor and without a road in sight and moors, mountains and wilderness to see this really takes your breathe away and you are transfixed by what you see out of the window. As we leave the moors forests start to reappear and with a loud exclamation from myself I have spotted a pair of large stags.....and they were big!Next it is on the Monessie Gorge with the River Spean flowing though it, the power coming from river was immense with water falls and river rapids visible from the train.
On arriving at Fort William I had been on the train just short of 4 hours and I have to say it didn't seem anything like that amount of time. On arriving at Fort William I was welcomed by a trio of engines. 67011 on the Caledonian Sleeper stock, 37667 on a Network Rail train and 37516 all on its lonesome.
Now at 1610 and a long day of travelling it was time to find my B & B for the week and settle in.

Tuesday 26th May 2015: After the scare during the week that the RMT strike might of scuppered this trip it was a total relief that the strike got called off and with great glea headed to Fort William station to board The Jacobite train with a rake of West Coast Railway mark 2 coaches and hauled by Black 5 45407 "The Lancashire Fusilier" the journey to Mallaig was just as spectacular as the journey I had a few days earlier getting to Fort William with the highlight being crossing the Glenfinnan viaduct, famous for being the biggest solid concrete viaduct and more recently a certain boy wizard and a flying Ford Anglia and although I kept a look out for both I saw neither. I had booked a first class seat as I thought if I am doing this trip let's do it in style.....although I found there was another yep of style along his line today when we came to a stand alongside The Scotland train.....wow!!!! Waiters caring silver platters with glasses of bubbly, dining cars were there is just one long dining table length ways a log the coach with what appears to be cut glass goblets on the table and a couple of sleeping cars, wonder if I could afford that one day?
At Mallaig we had a 2 hour stop before our return journey and it was lunchtime and the advise is to try the fish, so who am I to argue with? So it is off to a nearby fish restaurant and I stuck to he traditional fish and chips with a bottle of Fraoch Heather Ale and at 5% a bit stronger than what I usually like but what delicious and light beer which could end up being very dangerous. I'll have to hunt this beer down when I get home. Back to the food the fish was delicious and after seeing the other sea food that was brought to to the others dining I think I will need to have a return visit at some point. The meal was followed by a mooch around the harbour and spotting the biggest seal I have ever seen before heading back for the train back to Fort William.

Wednesday 27th May 2015: Time to head off home, checked out of the B & B and headed for the railway station and for once a reasonably timed train at 1140 to Glasgow Queen Street with a new red pen (surprise!surprise!) in the form of 156457 for my trip back to Glasgow. Only thing to report was at Bridge of Orchy we had to wait for a late running freight train formed of 66118 to clear the single line so that meant I had time to get off the train and get a photograph of the freight which also meant that I set foot upon the platform from/to a train so can be put down as a shack attack....score!!! After the freight train passed we were soon on our way to as far as Crianlarich we're we suffered more delay waiting for the arrival of the late running train from Oban for the connecting passengers and by the time they arrived we had then had to wait for the on time Glasgow to Mallaig to arrive before we could proceed along the single line, which meant seeing I was on a 156 and needed the toilet after checking there was enough time I used the amenities on he station which meant another shack attack, every cloud has a silver lining, by the time we left we were 31 minutes late and made up about 5 of them by the time we got to Glasgow.
With an hour until our train back to Manchester we had sufficient time to cross Glasgow and pick up something for tea on the train. At Glasgow Central I think I am being stalked as the train back to Manchester was 350410 again!!!
There is very little in this report as to red penning and shack attacking but it is more of a report to try and tell people if you have not done The West Highland Line then if you get the opportunity to do it do, it is one of the most scenic rail journeys in Europe and the most scenic in the UK. Normal service will resume wih future reports which should not be too long hopefully

Got to agree about the West Highland Line, I never get tired of the scenery.
I remember a good few years ago (about 15 at a guess) somebody had gone to a lot of trouble to place a full size toilet, with a giant cuddly toy sat on it, up on Rannoch Moor, miles from anywhere.
It was not what I expected to see from the train!

I was also on the line on Thursday the 21st as that was the day 45135 and I did a small bit of it (Arrochar & Tarbet - Bridge Of Orchy and back) in order to have a bash on the sleeper.

Anyway, good report and well done on seeing the stags -something I've not managed in umpteen trips up there.

Brings back memories of doing the West Highland line last year on the sleeper (as a seated passenger), truly an amazing line

A thoroughly enjoyable holiday was had by the reads of things, always a bonus if you get to score stuff on the way around. I had 61994 when I did the Jacobite many years ago, back when 37/4s were regulars on the WHL. I cannot disagree, it's a stunning line and well worth the long trip for it. The Mallaig extension is amazing too, so glad I did it when I was up there.

Agreed on the food, absolutely stunning fish and chips was had (I can't be sure but I think it was plaice I had. Memory's not what it used to be, after all this was 10 years ago!) and worth every penny! I just wish I'd wrote down which 156 I had to Westerton, or if I had that I hadn't lost my notes (along with jumper and cash), actually I think this full tale belongs in the Nostalgia sector of the forum...

You've sure had some mileage off 350410, Piccadilly to Glasgow isn't a short journey after all!

Monday 1st June 2015

Decided today to do another run around Leeds to try and clear more Northern units and digged out some gen for the day as to what is knocking about, although I am talking about Northern here so musical trains could happen at any time. If everything goes to plan I will have a milestone event towards the end of the day.

I head off to the tram stop for the tram to Cornbrook formed of a dud 3076. At Cornbrook it is the morning peak and the trams are heaving. The first tram arrives and there was no way I was going to try and force my way on to it for a game of sardines, so with only 5 minutes to wait for the next tram I decide to hang on and what a good choice as the tram arrives it is a required 3085 to take me through to Manchester Piccadilly.

At Piccadilly I have time to grab a bacon butty from Gregg’s before heading over to platform 13 for my train to Leeds which is formed of 185147 and grab myself a window seat and tuck into my breakfast.
At Leeds I have 30 minutes to wait for my next train which is an additional service put on for the test match being held at Headingley so I board 153304 for a trip out to Horsforth where the train terminates.

At Horsforth I wait for my next service that should be a good 144 and a good 153 for my next two trips, but to my disappointment a dud 155347 draws in…. Northern musical trains has started! So I reluctantly board the train and head off to Harrogate.

At Harrogate I have to decide whether to wait for my next gen train, which could have been changed as the last service so I decide to head back to Leeds and see what I can find and to my astonishment a dud 144013 arrives couple to a good 142090 to take me back to Leeds. On the way back to Leeds the train I had planned to get passed me and it was the two units the gen had given me, so now how do I get back to pick them up later?
On arriving at Leeds I have about 7 minutes to head back toward Harrogate and jump on the dud 144020 to go to Hornbeam Park where I would have about 15 minutes to wait for my next train.

At Hornbeam Park I head across to the other platform and wait for the train I am waiting for to return. 153378 coupled with 155342 arrives and I travel on the former to Horsforth where I transfer to the latter unit to complete my journey to Leeds.

At Leeds I have 30 minutes to nip to Sainsbury’s to grab a sandwich before going and getting 158815 to Cross Gates where I have a 20 minute wait for what should be another decent 144….nah!!! another dud 144 in the form of 144015 (musical trains again) to take me to Selby.

At Selby I like this station especially with the swing bridge at the end of the station, what a cracking photographic opportunity of the bridge. My plan now was to head up to York to pick up a Leeds service via Poppleton to complete the route so I board a dud 142017 to York, this is when the heavens opened and threw it down and on the journey to York I was getting wet as well and I couldn’t figure out how as the nearest window that was open was about four seats down on the opposite side, as the journey went on the rain got worse and it was then I realised I was sat under a leaky 142 window….great!!

At York I have about 5 minutes to get my next service going to Leeds via Poppleton formed by duds 150226 and 142053 (another name I like, I can just imagine Rowan Atkinson pronouncing it exaggerating the letter P….Poppleton) anyhow I digress at this same moment I notice a good 158784 stood in the bay platform at the other side of the station booked to work the 1611 to Hull, exactly the same time as the Leeds via Poppleton (sorry!!!) service was booked to depart and the 158 was booked to go to Hull via Church Fenton and Selby which would be a new route for me, so of course the 158 won out. I made my way to the platform and was amazed at the number of people waiting for the train and more amazed with only 3 minutes until it was due to depart there was no train crew….3 minutes after it was due to depart they announced a change of unit to the one I had just got off and I was not going to get wet again!

So a new plan was needed so I boarded a dud 158759 to Leeds and from there was lucky enough to find a required 153 and 142 coupled together so I boarded 142092 to Cross Gates where I transferred to 153358 for a trip up to Garforth.

At Garforth I had a couple of options, first a TPE 185 back to Leeds or to wait for a Northern train. Anyhow the 185 was a dud so I thought I’d wait for the Northern train which proved a good choice as 158758 arrived to take me to Bradford Interchange for a shack attack.

At Bradford Interchange I had a 20 minute wait for my next train which is the cop of the day to take me back to Manchester and 155346 rolled in which is my last 155 required for haulage.

Back at Manchester I had a couple of dud trams in the form of 3028 and 3090 to take me home.

Congratulations on clearing your 155s, something I'm not even close to doing yet. Were you on the 1045 off Harrogate? If so that's what I was on! I also happened to be on 142090 and 144013 on the 1117 from York, so if you were on those I was too (in 142053 on the 1045 from Harrogate and 142090 on the 1117 from York)! I also got on 144020, 1229 off Leeds. I was only on it from Weeton to Pannal though.

A good time had for sure with plenty of winners had there. Good fortune had in the morning on the Metrolink, wouldn't have been fun cramming on that first tram!

Shame the gen didn't work out for you though, more excuse to have another go one day!

OMG!! A small world. Just checked my note book and I was on 142090 when it formed the 1145 from Harrogate (which had come from York) and then yes I was on 144020 on the 1229 off Leeds to Hornbeam Park.

Majority of the gen did work, the two 155's were correct and when it didn't work I managed to blag a couple of Heaton based 142's (never realised they came this far down) and an additional 153 along with a few extra shacks.

Must have been a case of being in the opposite coaches I suspect on those moves. So close to a meet!

Heaton 142s do come a long way south, not sure on the furthest point but I believe that would be Lincoln Central. At least it wasn't a disappointment when the gen went belly up, curious which milestones you were aiming to have reached.

Clearing the 155's. I've been after those two for ages and every time I've been in the Leeds area they have always been hiding away in some depot somewhere and they've been teasing me while i am at work because I've seen themflying around the area.

Scotrail Chasing and Stalking Trains – Tuesday 2nd June 2015

After my recent holiday to Fort William I realized I was in a desperate need to have a day or two on the network getting some haulage and shack bashing in. The perfect scenario would probably be a Freedom of Scotland pass, but I do not have the time at the moment to do that so a day trip will have to suffice. So early morning I jump in the car (this is just like going to work!) and head off into Manchester as I have found a car park near to Manchester Piccadilly that is only £2.80 for all day and seeing I am expecting a late return coupled with an early start I didn’t feel like mucking round with Metrolink tonight.

I arrive at Manchester Piccadilly in plenty of time and the usual ritual of an early morning start is observed by the purchase of the obligatory bacon bap and coffee in their breakfast deal from Gregg’s, so then it is off to platform 14 for my steed to Glasgow for which I have a 7minute wait for the train to arrive. The 0717 to Glasgow rolls in and would you believe it, it is 350410 yet again! Okay I don’t need any of the 350/4’s for haulage but this is the third time I have travelled between Manchester and Glasgow in the last fortnight and all three have been on 350410. That is roughly 688 miles on one unit. The rest of the 350’s have some catching up to do.

So I find a table with a spare window seat and settle down. I’m beginning to feel like I am at home on this unit. Not much to report about the journey, except that I sat on the wrong side of the train for Kingsmoor and missed a load of DRS locos…DOH!!

I come up with a plan to try and concentrate on the older EMU’s to begin with as I usually get attracted to the sparkly newer ones so with only having had two rides on the 314 units it is them that I am going to concentrate on first. Arriving at Glasgow at 1030 I have 5 minutes to get to the Neilston service, which if I am right is usually operated by a 314, and yes I was right a good 314203 for a short hop to my first new shack of the day.

At Mount Florida I leave the Neilston train and have a 2 minute wait for a return service to Glasgow Central and 314201 arrives to take me as far as Pollokshields East were again I only have 1 minute to wait for my next train (see I still haven’t learnt the 5 minute rule!!) which is formed of 314204 to take me to Crosshill. Here I have a breather for 7 minutes before 314214 whisks me of to my next station stop at Queens Park. Here I have an eternity to wait, or it seems so after the last 30 minutes. After a 15 minute wait 314216 arrives to take me back to Glasgow Central, now for a 45 minute stint 4 new shacks and 5 new trains for haulage I think is a pretty good return.

At Glasgow Central I hunt down my next newbie and come across 314209 working the 1142 to Paisley Canal and after a quick check on RTT the only way I can do this and not being sat around for a while waiting for the same train to bring me back is to get off at Dumbreck, but there is a snag, after looking at Google Maps Dumbreck is not an island platform and there is no overbridge you have to go up onto the road and over the road bridge and back down to the platform and I have 1 minute to do it on! I take the gamble and if I should miss it I would have a 30 minute wait for the return trip or I could do a 15 minute walk to Maxwell Park, there were options. So we depart on time and actually arrive at Dumbreck a minute early so I have a whole 2 minutes to cross to the other platform. So a fast march was in order and even that was nearly not enough, just as I was getting to the top of the ramp of the other platform, and believe me they are long ramps at Dumbreck the train rolled in, the fast march turned into a uncontrolled run down the ramp and coughing and wheezing (okay, I might be exaggerating a little bit but I did have to run) I jumped on 314205 to take me back to Glasgow Central. Just as I were arriving at Glasgow Central I noted 314202 departing, another one needed for haulage, darn you!! So RTT checked for when it would be back in the area and my next moves planned to try and meet it on one of its other journeys which left me enough time for PNB, although it cost me 40p!! Sure it is still under 30p in London. Back to the moves and I boarded the 1215 Cathcart Circle going anti-clockwise and was formed of 314213 to take me to Langside where I then picked up a dud 314204 (from earlier today) to take me to Maxwell Park (wanting to type Maxwell House!!) During this 10 minute break and seeing it had turned midday I turned my attention to thinking about which train do I get to go home this evening. I had a choice of three: 1710 direct to Manchester Piccadilly (knowing my luck 350410 again!!) so no. The 1740 Euston and change at Preston, could do or the 1840 to Euston changing at Preston and being home for about 2230, reasonable time so it was decided the 1840 because it also gives me longer for newbies.

At Maxwell Park I have a 13 minute wait for what I am hoping will be 314202 to take me through to Newton where I have a 10 minute wait for the service to Dalmuir so that I can do another new shack and I was pleasantly surprised to get another new unit in the form of 314201, at Ruthglen we were delayed by 5 minutes while the train crew rescued a gentleman in an electric wheelchair who had become totally stuck in the stone that forms part of the platform. I noticed this type of surface the other week on the West Highland Way and am still wondering why they use this type of surface because it is not really that wheel friendly. Once the gentleman was freed we were on our way and I left the train at Anniesland and only had 4 minutes to wait for the 1354 to Airdrie which was formed of a pair of newbies so I jumped on 320304 to as far as Charing Cross were I then transferred to 318253 as far as High Street where I had a short wait for 320320 to arrive to take me through to Partick.

It has been a while since I have been to Partick and the station concourse seems to have changed since the last time I was here. But only a flying visit and it is not long before I am back on the platform waiting for my train to my next station when 318261 rolls in and I board it for the short trip to Exhibition Centre. Here I wait for the next train and to my dismay 320301, which I had earlier today came into view but I then noticed another unit attached to the rear so I was in with a chance and the railway Gods were smiling on me today as 320308 was the train in question so I jumped aboard that unit to Argyle Street where I had a leisurely 6 minute stroll to the opposite platform for my next train which was 318261. I had planned to go on through Glasgow Central on this service but noticed 318250 stood in the opposite platform so I dived off 318266 to get 318250, unfortunately as I took my second step on the platform the doors on 318250 closed and the next trains on the lower level were not for another 15 minutes which was a bit of a waste seeing the possible box of delights that could be waiting for me on the higher level so, upstairs I went to see what was there.

I fancied a change and saw 156462 was waiting to depart for East Kilbride and after checking where it stopped there was one station that stood out so I jumped on and waited to leave.

At Crossmyloof (just HAD to visit this station with a name like that) I left the East Kilbride service and only had 10 minutes to wait for the 1533 to Barrhead which was formed of a dud 156432 but a good 156476 on the rear for a one stop hop to Pollokshaws West where a 5 minute wait saw me board 156508 back to Glasgow Central.

On arriving at Glasgow Central I still have over 2 ½ hours until my trip home so what to do next……. it was 1600 to Ayr and was formed of two 380 units, both required so I boarded the rear unit 380022 to Kilwinning where I then transferred to 380010 to take me to Irvine, by this time I was feeling hungry and I noticed a KFC, so tempting…but I was up here for a reason and time was pressing and I wanted a couple of more runs and I only had a few minutes for my next train back so food would have to wait so I made my way to the opposite platform to wait for the train back to Glasgow which was formed of 380109.

At Glasgow there was a few 380’s knocking around but a mad dash, and I do mean a mad dash as it was one of those situations that if I was already on the train I would be criticizing the person dashing for the train being on the last minute, the door buzzers started going with one foot in the train, and I was on board 380106 the 1714 to Ayr for a trip out to one of nicest stations in Scotland in my opinion. Paisley Gilmour Street. There were a few trains due that could take me back to Glasgow but I let the first one go as it was dud 380012 but when the second one arrived and it was a good one in the form of 380101 I climbed aboard for my final trip before my train home.

On arriving at Glasgow Central I noticed that the inward bound service which was to form the 1840 London Euston was running about 30 minutes late and would arrive only a few minutes before its booked departure so I decide to grab some tea from Burger King and sit in to eat it. After tea I went out back onto the platform and the train had been delayed further and was showing to arrive about 5 minutes after the 1840 should have departed and with a 10 minute connection at Preston I was beginning to get a bit worried about making my connection. There was not a single announcement about the delay, not a single apology while we stood in a queue waiting patiently, plenty announcements about the good news of the postponement of the rail strike but to be honest after the dozen time of hearing I wished they would have just shut up!

The inward journey finally arrived 7 minutes after its return journey was due to depart and it was formed of a dud 390123, still not a single word of apology was said while we were waiting for the train…poor show Virgin Trains I do normally expect more from the rail company. Well we depart 20 minutes late, no chance of getting my connection at Preston now and will mean a wait of about 40 minutes for the next train so I reside myself to the fact. Although did have a good trip back as I was sat at a table with a couple of gentlemen who had just cycled the West Highland Way from Fort William to Milngavie and where on their way to London Euston, which by now was looking like just before midnight before they got there. This time I had positioned myself correctly for Kingsmoor and managed to note down a couple of 66’s, 20303 and 68007.

Arriving at Preston at 2116 I had missed my Manchester train and the next one was at 2157, so a 40 minute wait I just mooched around waiting for the train to arrive and one consolation was that when it did arrive it was the First Transpennine service from Blackpool North to Manchester Airport and was formed of one of the Northern 156’s and on top of that it was a requirement in the form of 156448. The car proved a very good idea as it was 2300 before I got back to Manchester Piccadilly and would definitely was not in the mood for mucking around on the trams by this stage.

So, all in all not a bad day. 25 new trains for haulage and 16 new shacks for the day can’t be sneezed at. Not sure when I will have such a successful day like this again.

A very long but successful day indeed.

I've just read the west highland line report - sounds stunning! With little opportunity to check it out for myself any time soon, it seems Train Simulator's virtual version will have to suffice!

I too love 314 action, and I'm immensely jealous that you had my last 314 to get, 314213!

A most productive day indeed there, shame about the delays heading home, but at least it worked out well in the end! I see what your tweets were about now (thanks for the follow by the way!), don't blame you for getting irate!

You've had all the mileage off 350410 and I've not had it at all yet, hopefully it'll produce when I'm up there in about 7 weeks time

If you're going to Scotland I hope the planned Winchburgh Tunnel closure and consequent chaos isn't going to inconvenience you!

I've had a total of 5 trips on 350410 totalling 710m 12ch, my total mileage for 350's are 1742m 35ch!(Geek fest stats!!!) Really had a good day and still have a load of shacks and units to get up there.

Next trip I'm planning is for a day on the London Overground followed by a day on the southern section of Great Anglia line.

Although I am having thoughts for a trip of a difference, one that is a bit of a gamble on where I end up. The idea is to start from Manchester.....but which station? All depends on the role of a die!! Then I chose a number of stations to visit and each time it all counts on the role of the die, a new way to do a shack attack day? Any thoughts?

That sounds like one heck of an excellent plan, hopefully it'll work out!

55013: My trip to Scotland is by coach up to Glasgow and sleeper back down to London, so it won't affect me fortunately.

Good-oh.
Glad you'll not get caught up in it.
The thought of Glasgow Central being rammed with disorientated people trying to get to Edinburgh makes me shudder!
It's busy enough at the best of times.
I hope they plan on strengthen the via Shotts services.

The sleeper as well, eh?
A nice bit of 92 haulage (or maybe even a run on 87002).
I'm drooling :)

Queen Street surely would be more chaotic for trains to Edinburgh? I too hope they strengthen the Shotts line trains too, bound to be a lot of pressure on that line.

Aye 92 haulage is hoped for, not had one since 92003 in October 2006. Of course 87002 would be more than welcome, especially as it's a winner 87!

Of course there will be an epic trip report from that trip in due course!

Southern section of Great Anglia, as in those branches which are not covered by any rovers (bar the ALR), or just the main line?

Isn't the line from Queen Street LL to Edinburgh via Bathgate remaining open with strengthened units and 'express' limited stop services?

Yes, it is, but they seem to be encouraging people to use alternative routes as well.
Looking at the Scotrail website they seem to be offering Central to Edinburgh via Shotts, as well as the one via Carstairs, as other options.
I imagine that they don't want the low level platforms at Queen Street to be too busy, all the usual low level punters and a few hundred Edinburgh commuters might make the platforms too crowded to be safe.
I don't know, really.
I won't be going up there any time soon and just wanted to flag it up as it could have come as a nasty shock :)

Most considerate that, I'd forgotten about the blockade so it's just as well I wasn't doing a Central Scotland rover!

It will probably hit me on the Sunday, less trains between Haymarket & Edinburgh.

Might give me an excuse to pay the airport premium to clear the Edinburgh tram shacks instead

To begin with it will be the stations on the Main Line as I still need quite a few stations between Liverpool Street and Shenfield and I will see where I get to after that.

Also need a load of 315's.
