Considering there is a picture of him on the front of most newpapers this morning I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

I was stuck in a traffic jam between junctions 11 and 12 of the M40 yesterday afternoon and listening to this event cheered up what was otherwise a miserable afternoon.

Well done Andy - quickly extricated himself from an awkward acceptance speech qualifying his remarks about David Camerons presence.:p

I'm not a great tennis fan and I'm not particularly keen on Andy Murray but congratulations to him, thoroughly deserved.

Much as I dislike the moody, taciturn, undemonstrative, miserable sweaty sock even I must admit that Andy Murray is one of our most successful sportsmen

3 grand slams and an Olympic gold isn't a bad return!

Its not GBR Scotland want to exit, but the UK. They will still geographically be in the British Isles.

Congrats to Murray for putting in the effort and winning. However a number of forumers have forgotten the rule regarding Murray: He's British when he wins and Scottish when he loses.

Murray is not a sufficiently proud Scot to actually live there. As for his win, it was no surprise as he is the number two ranked player in the world and the number one ranked player in the world was knocked out early. However, "best player left in draw wins Wimbledon" doesn't sound as good as "plucky Brit wins against the odds" which is the impression that some seem to have. Murray is unfortunate in having had to compete at a time when the opposition (Djokovic, Nadal, Federer) has been so strong.

Bit like Chris Froome; British when he wins, Kenyan...
Or McIlroy: British when he wins, Irish...

Federer for all his greatness is now on the downslope of his career - and what an illustrious career it has been.
Nadal is finished. He spent too much time trying to bulk up in the gym and now his wrists have gone. Too much too young and you're buggered. Ask Boris Becker who now has two artificial hips and walks like a seventy year old or Tracy Austin who was burned out at twenty one.
Djokovich is burnt out. He said as much in his post match interview when he stated that he was going to spend more time with his family. You could see it in his eyes. The lights were on but no-one was at home.

Greg Rusedski had a similar problem, but unfortunately he wasn't as good as Murray so he was Canadian more than he was British! ;)

Getting back to Andy, I believe the title will have meant far more to him than the £2 Million that went with it in prize money.

Perhaps Andy and his mum could show the current dismal failures that comprise the England football team what playing to win and fitness is all about.

Mind you, I'd doubt it as all they seem to be interested in is getting tattoos, buying expensive cars and acquiring living Barbie dolls for wives.

I think Murray is one of the greatest British Sportsmen of all time. What impresses me about him is that he never seems to give up.

Commendable although it was this victory represented his Third Grand slam success from around Eleven Finals. The 8 losses would be enough to consign lesser men to the fringes of the sport.

He is also an Olympic Champion and won the Davis Cup almost single handedly.

Must be a shoe in for Sports Personality of the Year. :idea:
