more records have been lost. This time, not by the government, but the DVLA have lost the data of 3,000,000 learners, giving their address, phone number, e-mail and others. A full news article is here

Those that need to know - KNOW!!!
Would have thought it was the Government that lost them again as the DVLA like the DWP is full of civil servants and is responsible for the collection of licence fees on behalf of the goverment.

As Jeremy Clarkson said, all they can do with the data is put money into your bank account...so really it's a lot of fuss over nothing.

Not surprising really. As was mentioned on Radio4 last night, it was a disaster waiting for months to happen.

We have to face that we are governed by a bunch of incompetent, useless people. I bet I could do better (famous last words....)

They lost them up to the end of last yar so people applying today are safe.

The problem is the obsession with contracting out government services to private companies which means data is transported outside the government network. Once upon a time (early 1990s) all government data was transported by Government couriers.

However, this contract was sold off, and thus we ended up with the cheapest contractors, and the service standard slipped.
