I know this thread is not rail oriented but I have Real Player as my default. In the Autorun list I have, there is an item called "TKBell.exe" which is associated with RP. Is this thing dangerous or spyware and how can I get rid of it please?

I found something that tkbell.exe affacts. RP has a downloader that operates when one wishes to download a movie clip from the net. If one disables tkbell.exe then the downloader no longer functions.

I use two different versions of Windows Media here; WMP9 (For general playback) and WMPclassic (Which comes in a codec pack that I use, and is very RAM efficient).
Both seem to serve me better than any other media player I've tried thus far, except perhaps XMMS (Supplied with Redhat Linux 9)...Although the downside to WMP is that it might be vulnerable to any exploit listed for MSIE.

If you want a good laugh listen to the Gadget Guru on LBC 97.3 he's on twice a week, Sunday morning with Vallen from 10-11am or Friday evening with Petrie Hosken 8-9pm.
You can hear that he's brainwashed the presenters into loving anything from Apple - he takes calls from those with technical problems but he answers almost every question with either

I agree wholeheartedly. Personally I don't think I'd ever be able to use a typical Mac simply because they try to hide anything system orientated from the user. :roll:
Although on that token, I have to say that a Mac is the first thing that I would recommend if my mother asked me to choose a computer for her. As she just wants a computer to turn on and work - Without having to worry about what's running in the background - The simplicity of the Mac would make it an ideal option for her, even though I can't stand the things!

Funnily enough, I received a couple of MP3 players through the post the other day that I'd bought on eBay shortly before. Although they had been sold as "Cheap Chinese players, faulty and needing reflash" I almost had a heart attack when I opened the box and two iPod Nanos were revealed!
hock:Thankfully a short period of charging, a reformat, and a power-up revealed to me that the "iPods" that I had were simply rather convincing Chinese fakes. That said though, I've never before been so relieved and happy to find that the prducts I'd bought were counterfeit! :eek:

But the current range of iMac, Mac Book etc is nothing but standard PC hardware sold at an inflated price. a Good Spec PC with Win 7 or SuSE would be just as adequate and a hell of a lot cheaper!

Very, very true...Why should I waste money on a tatBook (My own opinion only) when for 1/3rd of the price I can buy a Dell Inspiron that's just the same in the specs department?

I find Itunes is a good Media manager. but as a player it is too bloated... it does run much better on Windows 7 than Vista.
I also have an iBook running OSX Leopard (can't upgrade further as it is Power PC based) which has lasted me 5 years now! - Though I won't be buying a new Macbook as the battery can't be replaced!
Also Macs in the US are not that expensive compared to PCs, spec one of each to Equal and you'll find there isn't much in it. Some HPs were MORE expensive. However over here they seem to take the Dollar price and charge it in pounds

(Admittedly the minis are broken and in the process of being put together to form 1 good one - which will become a permanent feature in the car
).Newer Apple stuff, and Macs, I really cba with though.

I disagree. I have just got an MB Pro, which is SO much better than my old Dell Inspiron. I can actually run the CS4 Design suite without it all crashing when I want a different sized brush in Photoshop.

If nothing else: When I got my two "iPods" as described above, I'd initially let out a large groan of anguish (This was before I'd started to suspect they were counterfeit)...But when it occurred to me that I could probabally install iPodLinux on 'em, I suddenly felt a lot happier about the idea!
To be honest; The last time I used a Mac for anything other than viewing images from a thumb drive, I got so thoroughly annoyed with the thing that Id've probabally thrown it out of the window...Had I not been in an Apple store at the time!
hock:That said though, I'm tempted to take one of my fake iPods into my local Apple store next time I pass it, act a little on the computer-illiterate side, and ask them why it doesn't seem to work properly in iTunes...

(Assuming - Of course - That thy one hasn't been trojanised by Quicktime so that any attempt to access a media file results in the player appearing, playing the file, and attempting to Save As Source results in a message like "This feature is only available in Quicktime Pro, which you can purchase now for only $49.99" appearing... :roll:
