Just planning my next trip, which is to the US in February, and I'm considering using Amtrak's sleeper from Chicago to Seattle, the Empire Builder.
Been a while since I used Amtrak for anything outside the East Coast Corridor and am just wondering if the accommodation on the sleeper sets has improved. Considering getting a roomette for the two nights from Chicago to Seattle, and just keen to know if anyone has any (recent / last 5 years) experience of their trains.
It still pretty pricey, at $530 / £320 for two nights onboard plus travel, but factor in 3 meals and a bed, and it's not too bad. That said, a flight would cost $65 / £40 for the same (3 hour!) journey, but that's not what I'm there for, obviously.
Most of the other journeys I've planned are day trains or flights, but I'm keen to know if the refurbishment program has improved the sleeper trains much.
thanks
