Can any kind person advise about the best travel options
2 People travelling one over 65 one under 65
Staying at Hotel Best Western Hoofsdorf near airport which has a free shuttle
Day trip into Amsterdam central Saturday will be streight in and out to Centraal
There may be a couple of trips on Sunday in center

It looks like the 2 Day Amsterdam Travel Ticket at 24 Euro for the under 65 and OVpay debit card both days for the over 65 might be best

A single trip Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam Centraal or return will cost you 5.20 euro with a debit card. There is no reduction for over 65's. The two-day Amsterdam Travel Ticket is a reasonable deal when you make one or two more public transport trips in the city. There is a possibility to obtain 33 % reduction on city transport (only, not on railways) for over 65 when you register your debit card with ovpay.nl/en, but there is hardly a benifit over the Amsterdam Travel Ticket.

IF these are really the only trips to make: forget any pass, just pay as you go with Bank or creditcard. Indeed, it should be possible for the 65+ to register it for the 33% discount ONLY for bustram-not trains! We have also checkOUT wih all trips, other as f.e. London. Fares go really exactly by distance travelled. All expense as ´OV-pay´ in 1 day will be taken in 1 grand sum from bank in the night after.
Note that there is one of Nederlands most frequent buslines-and with 24 hr service, linking airport and Hoofddorp-en on to Haarlem too: 300 Connexxion, artic buses. Check yourself if it also passes by that hotel. In case shuttle has just left and long wait. Also expect an again newly set up entry system at airport-immigration for NON-EU citizens.
IF you are not specific rail/train aimed, then a general touristy info site like f.e. Tripadvisor is full of all the same Questions and answers too.

Thank you and @Beachcomber very usefull

My mistake was looking at the journey planner and seeing With Discount against trains which I now realise is for the subscription discount and nothing to do with over 65
We are there for 150 years of Tram weekend so not Train but very close
I think on balance we will take the passes as this is simplest even if it is not cheapest
(I sometimes go out exploring locally in the evenings if I am bored)
