Amending/changing ticket date (east coast)

I booked an outward and return standard class tickets from Leeds to London from the eastcoast site.

I'd now like to change the date of travel, website says it's possible but subject to an £10 admin fee per ticket and if the new tickets are higher cost, I will have to pay the difference. Fair enough.

I click amend and select a new date and cheaper ticket. The problem is it's still charging me for the new ticket price + £10 the admin fee.

My original outward ticket was £30+, the new ticket is only £12. It's charging me a total of £22. Surely it should be just charging me the £10 admin fee?

Yes, that's right. If the website won't do it, I suggest you go to a station to do it. Or ring them.

Although given that the ticket is £12, it seems a lot of hassle to save £2!

Yes, Yorkie's advice is your best option, tel Tel: 08457 225 333 and hours are Monday to Friday 08.30 - 17.00.

However, their call centre in Newcastle is currently innundated with queries arising from the weather-related disruption, so you may have a very long wait (can you leave it on speaker-phone while you listen to some Handel?).
As an alternative, you can use their web-based enquiry form at http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/about-us/Contact-Us/?id=17 and someone there will deal with your ticket enquiry. Include your 8 chaacter Booking Reference code in your message.

[BTW. I wouldn't bother for £2 either!. Can you not just give them to a friend as a prezzy?]

I dont know exactly what tickets you bought, eg were they 2 singles (1 outward 1 return).

If so from your post above you have said the website charges a £10 admin fee per ticket, so if they are singles thats £10 for the outward and £10 for the return, however i havent a clue where the extra £2 has come from.

Dunno if things have changed under East Coast, but certainly in NXEC days the station staff would flatly refuse to have anything to do with online bookings - instead directing you to the premium-rate number!

It's not premium rate. However if you are on a mobile phone with plenty of minutes available on your contract but do not get 0845 numbers included in your contract, saynoto0870.com (which works for all sorts of numbers not just 0870) says that dialling 0191 259 8083 should be the same as dialling 08457 225 333
