It was already in the machine i believe. Took it thinking it was mine but i never paid for it so i assume someone left it behind. What's the other white slip out of frame on the left of the image?
Yes, if that's the only thing you received (and didn't go away before the second one was dispensed). The outward leg of a return ticket is only valid when accompanied with the unused return leg of the ticket. The ticket machine only printed this out.

If you had problems your ticket says it is part of a return and has the return price on it so you'd only really need to prove you didn't use the return leg first or have confirmation the machine was faulty.
This isn't really correct advice though, that just isn't how ticketing works. The outward won't scan for the return, which will bring staff attention to it, and anyone who it paying the slightest bit of attention to it isn't going to accept the outward ticket for the return journey, there is so much potential for fraud. Discretion might be used, but it's definitely not guaranteed, and I wouldn't want to risk it.Yes, if that's the only thing you received (and didn't go away before the second one was dispensed). OP did you buy the ticket at the machine, or were you just collecting it? You should contact the retailer immediately (If you bought it from a TVM then the ticket office or managing TOC), via their official channels.
If the ticket machine didn't print it there's nothing much to do aside from at the time it was bought or when appealing a fine or explaining the inspector the situation.Paid and collected there. Just submitted the contact form to WMR now. I bought another ticket for the return anyway but if it is possible hopefully they'll be able to send a return ticket. This isn't really correct advice though, that just isn't how ticketing works. I suspect it probably did get printed but got stuck in the chute between the printer and the ticket tray, which would also explain the OP getting the Return portion of the previous customer's ticket.
