Alton to New Cross Gate

My brother is making this journey soon and has already purchased a ticket that gives him any permitted routing with the maltese cross on it. Online itineraries tell him to, upon arriving at Waterloo, to walk to Waterloo East and then get a train to London Bridge, and finally third train to New Cross Gate. I was wondering whether he would also be allowed to get on the Jubilee Line at Waterloo until Canada Water, and then take the Overground to New Cross Gate. I'm not sure whether it would actually be any quicker, but I simply can't work out if its valid or not. I am pretty sure he would be allowed to take the Jubilee line to London Bridge though.

I don't know whether Canada Water is on the list of valid stations for a cross-London transfer. Ultimately, however, your brother will not encounter any ticket barriers after entering at Waterloo and before reaching New Cross Gate, and in the vanishingly small chance of a ticket inspection, I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid at that route.

Canada Water is a valid interchange station.

I don't think the route is permitted strictly speaking according to the NRG, however it will almost certainly be considered a reasonable route, since services are more frequent between Canada Water and New Cross Gate than London Bridge and New Cross Gate, in addition to the fact that it is a much easier interchange at Canada Water.

I don't think going via Canada Water [ZCW] is a valid route, however I severely doubt that anyone will bat an eyelid. Be warned though, travelling on the Jubilee can be a bit claustrophobic

Although I too am unsure whether this actually is a permitted route, it is an entirely reasonable and logical one and anyone running into issues doing so would be unlucky/ unfortunate.
